For what it is worth. I have had several conversations with Bruce at Hoosier after we tested at COTA.
What we found in short..
DO NOT SLIDE THE TIRES AT ALL!! Especially during first two laps when bringing tires up to temps. Cold carcass and hot surface combined with sliding the tire will grain your tires, BADLY!
We made every adjustment imaginable to stop the graining. The ONLY things that worked was bringing the temps up slowly and not sliding. For what it is worth, as we learned the track more and more, the tire graining was less and less. Those who don't follow these suggestions and even many who think they are WILL grain their tires. Use your head, if you grain a set of your tires, for all intents and purposes they need to sit a day or more before trying to wear the grain off by mounting on the opposite side of the car and taking 3-4 very easy laps to clean up the tires. None of us will have the luxury of being able to clean up tires. So follow these suggestions and pay attention!
Thank you to Hoosier for being proactive and putting this out

Kyle, it's a PDF file so you need Acrobat Reader or another program to view it. It's free at http://get.adobe.com/reader/. But here's the text:
CUSTOMER ADVISORY BULLETIN #1301
2/7/13
Tire Management at Circuit of the Americas (C.O.T.A), Austin, TX
In preparation for the upcoming SCCA Majors event, we would like to share some things that we’ve
observed during last year’s inaugural F1 event and recent testing by Grand AM and SCCA teams. This
information is intended as an advisory for participating drivers to hopefully, aid them in maximizing the
positive “on track†aspects of the upcoming event experience.
C.O.T.A is a “world class†motorsports facility with one of the most technical configurations you will
likely ever see in your driving career. If you want to excel in the relatively short time you will spend on
course, each session must be a very disciplined approach with the primary priority given to precision in
your driving style. This is not an easy course to learn and it is normal and not difficult to make mistakes
during your learning curve. It has been an observation that little mistakes, more so than many other
configurations, produce a large penalty in your lap time.
The surface at C.O.T.A is extremely smooth, so smooth that a lot of tires struggle for grip. There will be a
lot of situations during the learning period where drivers will find themselves “off-line†and fighting to
get back “on-lineâ€. If the tires are “sliding†this surface will cause the tread rubber to grain instead of
wearing excessively and evenly as it would at most other surfaces. Given this extremely smooth surface,
it is critical that you allow your tires to come up to temperature for a couple of laps before pressing your
vehicle into maximum performance levels. Failure to do so could needlessly damage the tires.
Once again, this advisory is intended to help shortcut the “learning process†at his new facility and assist
in providing our customers in maximizing the positive experience much anticipated at C.O.T.A in March
of 2013.
On another note, due to the magnitude of this event, we have been ramping up the “sales and serviceâ€
element for our Hoosier customers. If you would like to arrange for tires that can be accessed at the
event, the following contact must be made by no later than Wed., Feb, 20th at 3:00pm CST to:

Reads kinda snotty to me.
??? Reads kinda informative to me
Kinda funny thinking about 85 guys taking it easy for the first few laps. Yeah. That'll happen.
Rob
I didn't get that at all. I know Hoosier was very concerned and called me several times about times about this to help inform the drivers about the concerns and help them get the most out of the tires and the weekend.
