I'm in the middle of rebuilding brakes in the off season, and I'm having a weird problem getting the upper slider pin back into the rubber boot that goes thru the caliper carrier.

As I slid the caliper (and slider pin) in, it actually starts to push the rubber boot out.

Should that boot have a hole in it to release air pressure?

I feel like I'm crazy...i've done this for the past 4-5 years and never had this problem.

Thanks!

Yes there is a VERY small pin hole in the end of the boot.  You MAY have too much lube in the boot too.  Use a Qtip  and clean out all of the old GUNK and ensure the hole is clear

Thanks. I was using new boots, I tried blowing into the new Mazda boot and it seemed totally airtight.

Yep, the new boots seem to have no hole at all.  Ideally you want to cut a small "nick" in that nipply end, so that it lets grease out, but doesn't suck water in.

For the pins that go into the casting itself, you can just pinch and pucker the accordion boot while you slide it on, so the air can come out as you slide it together.
