WIllow Springs is nicknamed the fastest road in the west, it is a high momentum track that you get no lower than third gear. The Spec Miata field had 14 cars. Rob Burgoon who had not raced this year came out to play and put his winter rebuild on the pole almost a full second clear of the field. 2nd was Grant Westmoreland, followed by Elliott Skeer, Clement Lee, Joey Jordan in 5th, Wesley Molino in 6th, Ramon Niebla 7th Ian Thomas in 8th, Todd Launchbaugh in 9th and Bill Nelson in 10th.
So everyone has a scorecard the field was made up of the following:
99+ 94-97 90-97
Westmoreland Burgoon Jordan
Skeer Thomas
Lee
Molino
Launchbaugh
Niebla
Nelson
At the start Jordan got the jump from row 3 and lead the first lap, the top 8 cars all battling over space like pigeons over breadcrumbs. At the end of lap 1 it was Jordan,Burgoon, Skeer, Westmoreland,Lee, Launchbaugh in 6th followed by Niebla and Molino. Burgoon got passed Jordan on the outside of turn 2 on lap 2. Skeer got passed Jordan later that lap. Burgoon would be dogged by Skeer, the battle was on. Burgoon would lead laps 2-5 Westmoreland got by Jordan on Lap 4 and start to use team tactics with Elliot Skeer to work over Burgoon. Eventually those three would pull clear and battle it out to the finish, Westmoreland getting by Burgoon on lap 6 and the RUSH motorsports teamates made it a race between the 2 of them. Skeer leading from lap 6 to 13 and Westmoreland leading to the final lap in turn 9 a 95mph decreassing radius corner in 4th gear the teammates were side by side and Westmoreland won by a nose over Skeer. Burgoon was 3rd eight seconds back , Jordan and Lee Dicing for 4th. Jordan would get 4th by a nose (the transponder said different but the starter had to make the call!) Lee was 5th Launchbaugh 6th and Molino 7th.
