I have and AIM system and use magnets on the driveshaft to measure speed, but I can't keep the magnets on. Any recommendations on type of epoxy to use, tape, or other tricks. I've used the AIM magnets and rare earth magnets from Radio Shack...nothing is staying on.

I use rare earth magnets from Harbor Freight.  10 for $1 and you could stick a water buffalo to your fridge with them.  I've used epoxy but switched to JB weld.  I put a piece of aluminum tape over them.  You can run the sensor further from the magnet so jiggling won't knock the magnet off and the combination of JB and AL tape seems virtually bomb-proof.

I have had very good results with rare earth magnets and high quality 2 part epoxy (Marine Tex http://www.marinetex...epoxyputty.html or JB Weld)
But make sure you start with a very clean, no paint surface, surround fully the magnets with the epoxy, maybe even a thin layer over the top of the mag, and let the epoxy cure fully before running the car.
I have heard of some SM guys that have had issues even doing this and they built a simple 2 piece collar and clamped it on the shaft and had 2 or 4 of AiM threaded magnets attached (evenly for balance).

AiM also offers a sensor (usually for karts) that will pick up any ferous object. I use it on the back of a hub on a Porsche to pick up the wheel studs. You might be able to do something similar.
