We have finalized the design and tested the end product. We are ready to produce the tools for all interested in purchasing them.  Jim Stewart of Stewart Engines is manufacturing the tools, the tools will be sold exclusively by SCCA enterprises. The cost will be +/- $400- $450.The current tool set is ONLY available for the 1.8l engines. The 1.6 tools will be available in the upcoming months. You will not need two complete sets, only a set of 1.6 measuring heads. It will only be the heads that need to be added, the pilots will be the same.

The tool kit will consist of four tapered pilots, in varying sizes. One of these four pilots will fit securly in the valve guide with no play whatsoever. There are four different measuring heads( intake and exhaust relief cuts, intake and exhaust throat cut) that rotate on the pilot. The clearance on the measuring head to the pilot is .0005.  All the measuring heads are slightly larger then the rule and the measuring head itself can easily be measured by any competitor with a caliper if they doubt the findings. If the tool fits, the car is definitely non compliant. I would like to thank Jim on an excellent job on these tools, they are of exceptional quality and craftsmanship and work flawlessly.

I will get some pictures and a short video together and post this week in order to better understand what the look like and how they work.  The purpose of this post is to have any of you who are interested in purchasing these tools to please email or contact SCCA enterprises and let them know you would like to purchase a set so they can order appropriately. Enterprises is making a minimal profit on these tools and doing us a favor in distributing them.  I want to make sure Enterprises is not stuck with more tool sets than they need. If you do not get your order in with the initial order, you should expect a 6-8 week waiting period.
PLEASE DO NOT CALL JIM STEWART TO ORDER THESE TOOLS.  Jim was nice enough to do this for the class at a cost basis. He is not permitted to sell them to anyone other than Enterprises.

If you know of anyone that may want these tools, please get with Enterprises by the end of the month. On April 1, Enterprises will put an order in with Jim Stewart to produce the tools. They may buy one or two extra sets, but have no intention in stocking several extra sets.

Lastly... The tools are all the same! But as all of us know, the tools that are in John Bauers hands are the final decision maker.  Since their will be a tolerance added to all of these tools, let your conscience be your guide. I DO NOT SUGGEST ANYONE take these dimensions to the edge of your tool set as you may get yourself in hot water.

Thanks again Jim Stewart and thank all of you for you cooperation

Ahhh there goes Drago - cheating up tech tools to make his illegal motors pass tech (there, I saved the two troublemakers some posting time).

Jim and Jim (not you, Daniels) - thanks for putting in the time and effort to make this a more robust measuring procedure in the future! :toast:

Full disclosure: SMAC chairman, my opinions do not reflect anything to do with the SMAC unless specifically stated.

Ok Todd, you IIRC have a mechanical engineering degree, correct. If you have all the answers, what are your thoughts of the SCCA intake and exhaust valve tools that have the final say as to legal or illegal???

After you provide your thoughts on said SCCA tool, if you had filed a protest aginst another car would you be satisified with the results from them checking with their tool???

This is just a test for a possible troublemaker. :o

I saw these tools at the national convention.  If you fail with these tools, save your money on an appeal.  They are as close to a perfect measuring device as I have ever seen.  Of course, you don't need to have the tools to make sure your engine is compliant.  Compliant is compliant, no matter how you measure it.
