I need to replace the high current crimped ring terminal to the alternator. It broke off last weekend, fortunately at an opportune moment. I replaced it temporarily with a typical yellow crimp connector. But I suspect that's not sufficient for the ~75A load, especially as I had to reduce the number of strands to make it fit.

What is the right part to use for this high capacity connection? And I suppose I would need a special tool to crimp it?

Won't the crimp tool cost more than a replacement cable?

You shouldn't need a special connector just because of the amperage load. If you had to cut some strands I would replace the connector because of that, though. If you can't find a connector of the right size locally, I'm sure you can get one here: http://www.mcmaster....rminals/=mc8iqj

A standard crimper should be sufficient.

I found a couple pairs of Lineman's pliers at Lowe's with a crimp area that will just accept a 6-gauge ring barrel, they're in the electrical section. Most only go to 10-gauge and the larger sizes are $$$. I did spot this one on amazon, that you wack with a hammer,... might be useful. http://www.amazon.co...ds=wire crimper
