Is there a letter or number in the 17 digit vin which would indicate the type of differential that Mazda installed in the car from the factory. Thanks for your help.

There is no number or letter that will tell you what diff is in the car, but if you call Mazda with the last 8 of the vin, they can tell you what is in the car

and the only way they know is they tap into the data base to look it up, its not self describing in the vin.

Interesting, it basically says on a 94/97 that if you have a power antenna, you have a Torsen ;-)

R package, (manual trans only), sport suspenion with Bilstein shock absorbers, rear spoiler, front air dam, rear skirt, alloy wheels with locks, Torsen limited slip diff, rear subframe bracerods

Any of these methods only tell you what the car was delivered to the dealership with. Which may be different from what is currently in the car.

In my search for a 99+ donor, it looks like leather interior had Torsen. I guess they could have swapped it out, but I don't know why they would.
