Following is a post from the production car site for the 2013 Ronoffs post qualifying tech.

How about the Line Chief ??? for Spec Miata post a heads up for the Spec Miata cars.

On our monthly tech call last night, it was suggested that all line chiefs find new items to check in post qualifying. So, I am asking if any of you planning to attend the Runoffs this year have anything specific you would like me to check. Remember, it needs to be easy enough as to not require a lot of disassembling and not take too much time. My plan is to look at 10 cars each day so some may not be seen. I would like to have everyone gone in less than one hour from the end of qualifying. As in the past, everyone will be held until the last car is finished unless there is a problem and then, only the car/cars with problems will be held.

Some of the obvious are already on my list such as spoiler, reverse gear & kill switch.

Post race is fairly well set, bore, stroke, cam lift if limited, compression ratio if limited, carb/intake, porting if limited and valve size. I'm considering checking rods and cranks this year for those restricted. I will do this in advance if you are into the motor and I'll mark and seal.

Sm has been handled by the National staff the last few years. If you have suggestions or things you want looked at, email John Bauer directly. You might look at this months member advisories for SM.

   I did talk to John B. a month or so ago. Suggested to John that the invasive tech should no more be used with Spec Miata than it is used with production cars. Using production cars as an example because as an example when they take a shock it has zero impact on their setup. You know the requirements when a Spec Miata is required post qualifying tech to replace the shock and re-setup the car. Also suggested they seal/mark/whatever to any invasive tech and take apart after the race.

My interest was that a past SCCA national champion was going to drive my car at the 2013 Runoffs, except that he has since our plan, been offered a car for another class (the car has multiple championships) that he could win the 2013 Runoffs. Explained this info to John and told John if there was any invasive tech post qualifying, the car would be scratched. I understand, it's no skin off his a$$. BUT, that is how strong my thoughts are on invasive tech post qualifying. I watched the the Spec Miata tech at Topeka and it made me feel sorry for the drivers/owners/crew guys.

Any idea when the head tech tooling that we discussed several months back will be available?  We're starting to build runoffs engines now and I'd like to be able to tech them while they're apart with the correct tooling before Mr. Bauer at RA   :nonono:

Dan, I understand you addressing Jim. Don't know Mr. Bauer's plan, BUT, the SCCA original cheking tool drawings still show on the SCCA site. Hmmm  :scratchchin:  I understand the different tools including the Stewart/Drago tool. If it was me, I'd make a call to Mr. Bauer
as to what the SCCA checking method will be.

The tools should be ready in the next few weeks and that is the tool that John Bauer will have and be using to test. As soon as they are available, if you ordered them, Enterprises will be calling you.

Also, this is not the Drago/Stewart tool. Jim Stewart developed and built the tools. I looked at the tool as a CRB member, showed it to the rest of the CRB and tech staff at the convention, we all approved of it.

I'll take the Drago/Stewart tools.... I've heard they're a little bigger than the ones Enterprises are making    <_<

Just kidding.... really, this is a great thing.  It's always a crapshoot as to whether or not cuts are legal based on measurement tools or technique.  This pulls one more piece of subjectivity out of the tech shed.

Are we a bit touchy this morning??? :noidea:     By the way, I called it the Stewart/Drago tool. :D

If I were measuring, I'd measure the same as the offical SCCA measuring process.

Not touchy at all.. Just want to clarify as a few claimed I designed the last tool that didn't work. They thought was I had masterminded and evil plan months before to use the slop in the tool for personal gain, then protest the same tool. All of this even though it was in an area where there was no gain to be had :)

My conspiracy theory is this:

Ernie had the special grease and you had the special tool...

Are we still talking about this nearly a year later :(

When Obama win the sm national championship then I will know there has been a conspiracy...

How about the type of wheels.  With that known then you cross check the weight of same.  SM wheels must have a min. weight of 13 lbs.
