Any thoughts out there?
I heard about bloating the tank with air but I have my doubts it will work.
Thanks

I have a 1993 Miata and I will be racing an endurance race in four weeks. I need the car to run for two hours on one gas tank to reduce the number of stops. I have already bought a 1995 gas tank with 12.7 gallons buti need one more gallon to achieve my goal.
Any thoughts out there?

Hector;
Depending on the rules this may be illegal or have alternative filling rules for any volume above the OEM capacity . I know it is the case in NASA's endurance races. I've also seen folks install a proper fuel cell as large as 20gal, but the fill rules still usually apply.

huge fuel lines?
How about a milk jug in the cabin? ;-D
Huge as in diameter, length or both! ;-)

If you are running the car in SM it's probably not legal to change or expand the tank beyond OEM.
Read the rules!
At The Devil in The Dark @ NJMP they classified all Miatas in E3 as they did ITA cars.
If we had run as an ITA car a fuel cell is legal, the sups allowed any cell up to 25 gallons.

Two words
SHORT
SHIFT
Shifting at normal +/- 7000 will get you about 1:40. Short shift to 6000 and you can get 2:30 easy.

I can't believe this topic, it was covered 23 years ago. Harry has the answer. Harry always has the answer. Better try the oil pan thing too.

What I meant by NASCAR is, on road courses, basic strategy is they pit as soon as their in their fuel window, figured out to the end of the race, as others pit later and the yellows come out they catch back up and gain positions. They run the race backwards.
"There's a lot you can do"
The situation is fluid, take yellows, you can take advantage or be disadvantaged or maybe no advantage at all by the end of the race.
They're many strategies, and all the best laid plains may all go to crap or help you win. The race may fall in your lap or out.
It's just fun trying to figure out which one is best at a given moment, at least for me.
