Could you elaborate on "add LSD slickifier to suit"?  What is a good quantity of LSD slickifier to start with?  I got the Redline NS but didn't realize that I needed to add friction modifier to it.  Thanks!

I tell my friends/customers to run Redline 75W-90NS (NS!  NS!) so they can add LSD slickifier to suit.

OK, maybe a bit off of the topic, but better than starting a new thread...

I'm not too enthusiastic about paying $80 for a Motive filler.  Has anybody just taken a garden sprayer and replaced the wand with a valve and filler hose?  A 1 gallon sprayer is only $15 at the depot.  Will it handle the viscosity?

According to this the garden sprayer is slow but works.

Among the even cheaper options, we've tried the auto-parts-store syringe and the funnel-and-hose. The syringe is tricky but it works. For the transmission, balancing a funnel in the engine bay and running a long hose down to the filler works really, really well. Just make sure to drain out any overfill.

The garden sprayer might be worth it if you don't have a helper and don't want to end up smelling like gear oil. Definitely don't need to spend $80 though.

Are you talking about a transfer pump to fill the Transmission/Diff?

If you've got compressed air and an air ratchet, this makes short work of it:

I've had it for a couple of years and it makes the diff and transmission fills easy.

Cheap and effective.

I have two of these...  One for the gearbox, one for the diff.

Cheap at $9.99 and works.

Funnel and a hose?  No reason to fight gravity...

Can you do it by yourself reasonably easily?

Need pic of how this works with diff.

I just use the cheapo syringe for the diff because it's not so bad with less volume than the transmission, but there's probably a way with a funnel.

Here's a better thread from the old forum: http://forum.specmia...4059;p=0#000001 with lots of descriptions from experienced folks.

It mentions doing the diff w/ gravity, plus tips for the different kinds of pumps. Worth a read.

I've found it super easy to push the orange hose from one of those $5 junk fluid pumps on the end of a 50-cent funnel, hang the funnel from the gas cap door using a wire coat hanger, and run the hose through the wheelwell to the diff.  Much cleaner than trying to actually use one of those pumps which in my experience just makes a big mess...

Same rig with the trans, just hang the funnel from the underside of the open hood with the coathanger.  Slightly more difficult if the hood is off completely...

I prefer having a helper, but in a pinch, one person could do it.

Need pic of how this works with diff.

I picked up a funnel at a local "Advance Auto" parts store.  It has a valve at the base of the funnel, hose, and a tip on the end of the hose with a cap.  There are some holes with plastic plugs in the floor of the trunk.  Route the hose through one of them and into the diff fill hole.  Pour away.  I've also gone through the left rear wheel well opening, but that's best done with a helper to make sure the hose doesn't pop out of the diff.

I use the same funnel for the transmission.  Go in through the engine bay.  Route the hose along the exhaust header/down pipe and into the transmission fill hole.

Making the transmission funnel fill easier at the transmission end of the flex tube, buy a 90* brass elbow (thin tube type-not heavy wall cast) and two pieces of copper tubing, one piece for each end of the elbow, push into flex tubing. When the brass elbow with brass tubing is inserted into tranmission hole it stays in place. I found (don't ask me from where, don't remember and can't find the source) a one quart funnel with snap on cover, handle and a rotate flo-no flow valve at the bottom end. Place transmission tunnel under hood drivers side.  For the differential I use a smaller funnel with flex tubing through a hole in the trunk floor. My flex tubing was purchased at a used junk store that has surgical supplies.
