With NASA running Laguna the same weekend.

Who's planning on doing the Festival this year ?

Are they going to grid the Festival race the same as last year ?

Only this year everybody will be on the same tire. So nobody gets put to the rear.

Cheers,

Dewey

At least part of the Southern contingent will return with more schooling for the homies. OPM is bringing a truck load, which reminds me: I need to sign up. I don't know about Panic and TiSpeed. Rumor has it that The Legendary Tom Fowler may be back in the seat. Todaro, we're counting on you for a supply of the local malted beverage. Can it beat the Freckle Belly Ale and Truck Stop Honey they brew down here in 'Bama?

Heads up: based on an impromptu driver meeting at Thunderhill 3 weeks ago, there is a motion to allow the Toyo RR for the remainder of the SFR Regional season (in addition to the Toyo RA1 and Hoosier SM6) beginning with the Sonoma Sprints July 5-7.  A survey was sent to current drivers and responses are due back today.  I've also received offline notes from NASA drivers interested in participating and we'll be looking at the responses later today.

Update to come... in the mean time, info and schedule is here:

https://www.motorspo...D8#.UbYUW0Ca2KI

Current entries are here:

https://www.motorspo...C2CB084A0420E3F

Rod Nelson will be joining us again this year.  He was a regular in the 05-06 era and won his fair share of races.   The SoCal crowd from Rush Motorsports including Clement Lee and MX-5 Cup driver Elliot Skeer will be joining us as well.  The Oregon crew said they are planning to come down so this race is going to live up to the goal of crowning the Best In the West...  get registered!

(Remember, your credit card is not charged until after the event - no penalty to registering early and securing your number!)

BIG NEWS - Based on input from drivers at the Thunderhill Double Regional in late May plus a 97% yes vote to a survey of 2013 SMT entrants, effective immediately, SFR will be allowing the Toyo RR for SMT for the remainder of the 2013 season including the Sonoma Sprints in July.

The goal is to support SMT drivers with affordable, fun racing and we will monitor the usage of the RR for the remainder of the season to collect information for 2014.  This means Regional SMT entrants may use the Toyo RA1, Hoosier SM6 or Toyo RR, all in 205/50-15.

Cars running at Sonoma who want National points must run the National spec tire, the Hoosier SM6.

Note the SSM tire has NOT changed and remains only the RA1.

Thank you for your input!

Well, no one can complain now about tires...unless they expect to win and choose the wrong one  :banghead:

As it stands now, is there tire money in SFR? Is Toyo going to offer any thing to encourage running their tires? Do you have to sign up only Regional or National...if you sign up National to fight for tire money do you still get regional points?

My guess is those running Miller will be doing more tire testing!

Are we predicting a sell out again??  75 cars was nuts!  Someone should post last years picture...and I know a lot missed this!

Anyone from back east want to fly in and drive my sons car...he will be on the other side of the country :crying2:  :noidea:

To earn National points, you MUST run the National spec tire, Hoosier SM6 (or god forbid, the H20).   You may earn both regional and national points simultaneously if running the Hoosier by checking the appropriate box on MotorsportReg.com.  If running the RA1 or RR, you may only earn Regional points (and tech will be checking).

BTW, already up to 21 entries!  Event sells out at 70 cars, so get registered!

Three races and you can double dip in ITA/ITS/STL whatever to pick up another 2 or 3 races depending on run group.

BTW, please donate to the Redwood Empire Food Bank.  It is an important part of our support for the local community that lets us race in their neighborhood.

Brian, Will there be a test day before the event? The SP schedule doesn't list it.

As the dates fall this year, Thursday is July 4th which is a long standing drag event so the test day is July 1st (Monday).   :( This should resolve itself next year as I think our weekend will move by a week and we'll be able to hold the test day immediately prior.

We're working with the track for drivers to leave their rigs in a parking lot between the two... I don't know the status of that yet but the office might.

Update: we have 59 entries, getting close to sold out!!

We do not believe you will be able to leave your rigs on Monday. Unfortunately the track people are on vacation after NASCAR and we haven't been able to get a yes, so we are assuming a no.

You will be able to stage on July 4th. We take the paddock when the drags are over for striping and set up and then people will be able to move in.

We will be switching the 3rd race qualifying to match last year - gridded by combined results from race 1 and race 2. Cars will start where they should be regardless of national, regional, SSM, SMT, SM, etc.

ALSO: i am being told we will be raffling off $2000 of cash from Mazda with a podium ceremony at the conclusion of the festival race and we have awesome silver trophy cups for the podium.
