For those who use it, what are its drawbacks? I've been playing with the free version and like it a lot.  I'm thinking of upgrading to the paid one, but wanted to make sure it was worth it.  I'm using an old MiniDV camera for the video.

How can you have it show acceleration v. braking?  I'm looking for something basic, the typical red/green single bar graph type.  Efforts so far have been unsucessful.  I'm not logging either acceleration or braking other than whatever Traqmate spits out.

Any other helpful tips to make it work better or look better?

Draw back?  Humm, I can't think of any, but if pressed I would say you'll have to find something else to use money you save with this program in comparison to the expensive name brand ones.  The first upgrade is great deal if you compare what you get for the price.  BTW - I have no affiliation but I was an early user and haven't looked back.

I use RaceRender's G-force icon to represent acceleration and braking, complimented by the speedo and RPM gages.  I also hooked up the Traqmate's TraqData D5 connector to my brakes lights and use a single point bar graph, with the text "Brake" on it to display when I use the brakes (to make sure I minimize my time between full throttle and full brake - in other words to catch myself coasting).

Which of the paid versions did you get?  I can't figure out the differences (in a meaningful way) between them.

The only difference with "Ultimate" appears to be you can design your own gauges.  If you don't care about that, just stick with deluxe.

Here is what they say on their website:

Ultimate Edition

  • All features from RaceRender 2 Deluxe Edition

  • Full data visualization features and customizations:
    • Enhanced speedometer, tachometer, and other gauge features
    • Gauge Designer tool
    • Import background images into most data visualization objects
    • More track map customizations
    • Export your custom gauges and other objects for use by any edition level
