This discussion may already be somewhere but searching NASA brings up way too much and PT isnt serachable.
There is a long discussion on the NASA forums about how fully built spec miata's Class into NASA PT. In my region its mainly done to be able to pull the restrictor plate for Enduro's and still run E3 by claiming a PTE car.
The general consensus is that a fully built spec Miata is a PTD car (albeit not a very competitive one). But some of the spec miata rules (specifically NASA ones in some cases) i am not sure how they are handled in a SM build.
First question:
In the NASA and SCCA SM rules cars are able to "update" the rear sub-frame braces to 97. Is this typically done to a 99-05, or is it even doable? Is the stock 99-05 subframe and bracing basically comparable already in "performance" to a stock 97? I have not personally worked on or built a 99 or newer car yet is why i don't know...
The other question I asked on another forum was whether or not power steering was ever Standard Equipment on the very stripped down BASE TRIM MODEL for any year grouping of miata (90-93, 94-97, 99-00, 01-02). The result I got on that question was it was an option on 90-99 cars and standard on 00-05 cars. If this is indeed true then you must take points for a pully change if you run power steering on a 90-97 car (not sure why you would). But you can run any manual rack. 99 and up cars can run either manual rack full power steering or a depowered rack, does not matter, as you can use the update/backdate rule...and have no points assessment.
