Has a great time, but the painted Ebay Logo on the way out of the infield was a real challenge when wet.

Lots of rain racing in Charlotte. Even more challenging was raining in the rain in the dark. Here is my video of Saturday night's Carolina Cup Race. I started back-in-the-pack and made it to P2 by the end. I had a couple of spins but kept coming back.

Todd, you make that look so easy.  The video just doesn't capture how difficult the conditions were.  Nice drive

Fixed, video is now public. I could not fix the part where I don't drive as well as Todd; I make it look hard.

You and me both.  At least you went out and raced. My only challenge was driving out of and then back into my trailer.  :raincloud:

Was a great four car battle on sunday after the fishbowl drained overnight. An interesting note, the top four cars for most of the race were a 1.8, 1.6, 01, and a 99.

Don't drive like my brother!

Great drives by both Todd and Sebastian on Saturday in miserable conditions!  Amazing to see someone so young dice it up in the pouring rain on an unforgiving track with a top-running guy with so much successful pro racing experience.  Well done!

Unrelated note, it was REALLY impressive to watch the MX-5 cars in the night race, also in the pouring rain.  Those cars were able to brake about 25-50 feet past the start finish line (deeper than the SM DRY braking point), slam on the ABS, and still maneuver through traffic while turning into the treacherous turn 1.  Unreal.

As Forrest mentioned... the top 4 running order on Sunday on the last green flag lap was a '99, '01, 1.8L, 1.6L.  Had the race gone green for the last couple laps, I suspect Forrest's 1.8L, which drove up from 7th place, would have made a move for the lead, although Bruni's 1.6L was a beast on the oval as well and very well driven.  A 3 wide 1.8, 1.6, '01 finish wouldn't have been out of the question!

My race on Sunday got interesting when this happened on entry to infield T3 at the halfway point while chasing Sebastian:

Fun weekend!  Big thanks to OPM for all the support, and also thanks to the rain gods for giving us one dry session this weekend!

I am new to spec miata and SCCA. I learned a valuable lesson this weekend, if there is a problem with the grid sheet speak up. As I pulled up to grid on Sunday I was placed in 14th which I found to be strange. I was not late to grid there was simply a mistake in timing during qualifying Saturday. I attempted to file a protest but by this point we were under the 5 minute warning. After the race I spoke with Sara, I believe she was the head scrutineer. Apparently my time was mixed up with another cars time, as I came around I would trip his time and he would trip mine. When I spoke with Sara after the race she informed me I was suppose to be pole for Sundays race (I contribute that to the push I received  from Todd Lamb, Thanks!). Moral of the story is always check the grid sheet and if there is a problem say something cause they won't fix it!! Not trying to cry here just mad I wasn't at the front to battle it out with the top 4-5! Awesome show guys!

I was really impressed with the caliber of drivers and competition this weekend. All in all it was a great time and I learned a ton! Dan you're right about the MX-5 guys, very impressive! Looking forward to the next one!

Haha Dan - I had that happen to me in a Grand Am race a few years ago, the mirror detached on one end and just swung back and forth as I would accelerate and then hit the brakes. Quite disconcerting! Looks like it didn't slow you down any

Agree on the MX-5 cars - that was the SM5 class Collins keeps talking about and WE NEED TO GET MORE CARS RUNNING! They are soooo much fun to drive and at $3700 for a new SEALED motor you can have the same performance as everyone else, no question on HP, and run the same motor untouched for 3-4 years.

Crowell - yes we were not sure what was going on with the grid - we figured Race Monitor was just messed up. You would have lined up on the front row and been right there in the mix.

Dan,

That's some shoddy build quality right there. I'd be on the phone with my builder asking for a refund of my entry fee.
