I saw a mention by Jim Wheeler in the October issue of SportsCar about licensing being different in 2014. Does anyone know what the procedure will be for a new driver trying to enter SCCA? What happens to our current Regional and National licenses? Any information at this time would be helpful, even the date of an official announcement.

Nothing will be final until approved by the Board of Directors which would be October at the earliest. The goal is simplification so the final procedure should be the same hoops or less.

That column was written several months ago. I thought it would not run until after the final license rule was voted on. My mistake. My license notes were based on a proposal, not an official action by the BoD.

I'm not sure what you mean. Every region has/should have school to get a Lic/permit at the beginning of the year. Also some have tech for your car.
Check out your scca region site.
Example.

There are several preliminary GCR chapters posted on the SCCA website under Club Racing/Cars and Rules: http://www.scca.com/...t.cfm?cid=44472
Go to the bottom of the page. You want Appendix C and Appendix C Table.
The link isn't working so start at SCCA.com.

Thanks for the info. As someone who is going to be applying for his novice permit in 2014 it was good to read of the changes that are being made. I've been starting to look at where the drivers schools will be at in my area (Blackhawk Farms is the closest one as of now, 4.5 hours away from Urbandale, IA) and I was noticing that all the schools were just singles and not doubles like in years past. Reading the proposed change of only having to complete one drivers school explains why they are all singles.
Are the changes I read in Appendix C official? What are the chances they won't happen or would change? I liked what I read so hopefully it stays as it's proposed. I'm quite excited about getting my competition license next year however I have to get it!
