I'm just finishing up a new build and plan to make march 19th the maiden voyage. Anyone else planning on being there?
Also, I still need to add a passenger seat for the school and was looking for thoughts on just bolting up the stock passenger seat and some outdated 5 point harnesses from a friends dirt car. I'm thinking a regular spec miata driver might be the way to go for an instructor, anyone have any interest? I was planning to ask my instructor to take a few laps in my car and give me their feedback, But I have a 15" kirkey seat that doesn't exactly fit a wide variety of driver sizes...
Any input would be appreciated,

-Jason

Hey Jason,
Welcome aboard. I presume since you are taking the Cascade drivers school on the 19th, you are planning on entering the Conference novice program? I did both last year. Did the SCCA Oregon School which was fanstastic and then ran the Conference novice program. Running both allowed me to stay closer to the Seattle area and limit some travel expenses. My son will be doing the April IRDC school in his street Miata and then running the novice program in my spec miata. Keep in mind, that if you are going to do the Cascade school, I believe (if it is like IRDC) you can do that in any vehicle. I fear that if you use your race car, you will need to mount another race seat with full harnesses. The SCCA school requires full on race car and no passenger seat is required. You are on the track in a lot of lead follow exercises. Both Conference and SCCA offer different licensing programs, but both are excellent.

I have signed up for the Lapping Day in conjunction with the March 19th school just to get some track time at Portland and shake down the car after numerous upgrades over the winter. Head over to motorsportsreg.com to view the event details with a current registration list.

Look forward to meeting you!

William,
Ya, the cascade novice program seemed a better fit for me. It sounds like your son and I will probably cross paths in the novice program this year, Look forward to meeting both of you. I'll track you down in march and say hi.

My thought with the passenger seat was if I can run a street car I should be able to get by with stock seating instead of buying or borrowing another race seat. That said, I also understand the requirement to protect the instructor at least as much as the driver too. I'll track down another seat and belts for the passenger side.

Thanks!
Jason

Hey Jason ---

Don't see you signed up yet for the March 19th Cascade School. Still planning on attending? Will be coming down with my son to get some track time. Stop over and introduce yourself.

William,

Ya, I'll be there. I'll register for it today. I was waiting to see if I'll need to rent a helmet or not, mine is on backorder at saferacer. It'll be close but it should be here in time.

Hey congrats Jason. Saw over on motorsportsreg.com that you had registered for the school. Just a ton of students down there. Not sure how many instructors they have, but have volunteered if needed. Now let's just hope the weather cooperates. You can definitely learn a lot when it's wet, but it's just so darn miserable being wet in the paddock and all. Will certainly look you up.....

Hey Mike....Had seen u had signed up. I'm driving down Friday. Track will be open till 5pm on Friday. Plan on bringing motor home down and getting into the pro paddocks that evening. If weather is good, Friday night drags will be going on but you will have to pay 9 bucks to get in.f When u heading down. Along way to go Saturday morning if trying to get there by 9am....

Can't believe the number of students taking the school. Not sure how many are going to go racing, but that is a very large gathering. Look forward to seeing you.
