Is there any reason to favor one variety from one vendor than another?  Or are tow hooks pretty much the same from all vendors?  (fitting to a 1.6L)

OK, I'll ask.  What is an MSM tow hook?

Probably not vendor to vendor, but if you find/make lighter tow hooks you'll eventually move the weight towards the center of the car (reducing polar moment).  It's not much, but if you carefully review all the items in the car, you can legally push 10 pounds towards the center.  Or let me walk you in reverse, putting a heavier tow hook at the rear will help you control understeer on the turn in.  It's a big topic, beyond SM.

MSM is Mazda Speed Miata I'm thinking, could be wrong :help:

Because my 1.6 weighs 2020 with 1 gallon of gas and two gallon cool suit cooler (located on passenger floor) I did't worry about my polar moment. I welded a two inch inside diameter ring around the OEM tow hook, I also use the tow hook when anchoring car to trailer. Another item to use away from fabed tow hooks is a mountain climers loop.

Sorry for the confusion.  I think meant Mazdaspeed Motorsports but I think the initials fell flat.  I meant to ask whether their is a reason to prefer the tow hooks sold through Mazda Motorsports are better/worse/same as those sold/made by other vendors.

I've managed to get away with the OEM ones, but I think it's time that I comply with the rule.  Every couple of years, a tech inspector mentions it and then forgets about it.

Ah, that MSM.  I usually refer to them as Mazda Comp from back before they changed their name.   :)

The Mazdaspeed tow hooks are made by AWR.  http://store.awrraci...om/tow-hooks-2/

They all look roughly the same and perform the same function.  I'd just get whatever ones are easier for you.

Safe Racer (forum sponsor I think) has these: http://www.saferacer...tow-hooks-99-00

Advanced Autosports has these: http://www.advanced-...9798ad39b7fd9f8

MiataCage has a few different versions here: http://miatacage.com...-tow-hooks.aspx

Iron Canyon is probably the least expensive I've seen: http://www.ironcanyo...97-towhook.html
