Greg, I'm confused. What makes you think they wouldn't be legal?
I haven't heard about any changes in SCCA rules related to fire bottles.

I believe Chump Car just changed their rules to require fire suppression systems for 2014, but don't quote me on it.

This is true. Starting next year, all ChumpCars must have a fire suppression system with a minimum of 5 lb/ 2 liter fire bottle capacity and at least two nozzles (one aimed at the top of the engine and one aimed at the driver).
My SM has both an ESS fire suppression system and a handheld fire extinguisher.
