Look out for my stolen hardtop, was painted black with white racing stripes.

Tell tale holes where safety straps where bolted to it.

Thanks

I would drive right over with My Race car and matching stripes, call the police and ask if they believe this is your top. That person needs a little alone time in a cell to think

You have to have sort of # and a good ID markings onthe top,or the cops will tell you to pissoff.

Put something inside  of the top or under the window weather strip, externally.

 IMHO. MM

STOLEN HARDTOP FOUND ON CAR, COPS WONT HELP?

After a month trying to get the police to recover the top. They refuse and wash there hands of it citing no serial # for clear evidence. CLEAR EVIDENCE????

I even had Larry Oka provide a statement saying he fabricated and installed the safety straps and that yes, it was my top.

Need someone to look for car in Fremont or Santa Rosa today as person is leaving the country tomorrow for a year or so. I have addresses . Any takers?

Find someone you know that knows someone in that police force. Use linkedin, facebook and any contacts you have.  You might not be that far removed from someone that knows somebody in the force.  Police will often respond differently if someone they know or work with brings something like this to their attention.  My wife and I had a similar situation years ago and this is what it took to get our property back.

Also, have you been to the police department in person?  If not go there and ask to speak with someone.  Show them your evidence and compel them to pursue this.  It's harder for them to say no when you are in front of them with facts.  Caseloads for detectives are usually very high and get prioritized by the nature of the crime.  You have to get their attention when your case is of lower priority.

As a retired police officer, I can tell you that this is known as a "kiss off". The officer didn't want to do the work. Did you do an original Police report of the theft? No serial number but he should have asked if there were any distinguishing marks or characteristics.

If you didn't report the theft when it happened then it gets into a grey area.

I would go to the PD and ask to speak to a supervisor. Be calm and explain the situation.

The cop should have taken the top as evidence, issued a summons and let the judge determine the outcome.

Randy,

I agree with your assessment completely!

Yes, I have a police report from the theft 3 years ago. (where I had the original thief willing to meet me and sell it to me? But I contacted the cops instead? and this is where we are today. Disgusted)
