Already got some great info just in this thread building up to the chat.
Has a date/time been finalized?
Maybe u can ask the importance of the 5/8" bs clearance on tuesday to satisfy your curiosity... see how many of the experts routinely run a car under 5/8 bs clearance. there are a couple tracks it can work,, and i know of one old salt that drove like that everywhere, but he was the exception not the rule. I know of 4 championships and several runnersup to the championship that has that much clearance... As well as when I was in your earthquake ridden country I did not notice any front runners that were on the BS's Ese.
I'm no expect and I may be traveling and may miss it but..
IMO, 5/8" is for shock travel to give mechanical grip, not just the grip of the tire on BS and to not upset the car as easy.
And for the rest, your not telling me anything I don't know already and use.
As for the extravganza...
I'd like a format like you were having a beer chatting with the boys after a day at the track
We're it's not yes, no, black or white but really explained with why or why not you would or wouldn't and when and what you and your car would really need to do it..
I know this sometimes get into "The more I learn, the less I know"
Thanks again guys,
J~
A few questions:
1) From highly advanced drivers, I hear them use the term/phrase: let the car roll through the turn. What exactly does this mean? At what point during the turn do you let it roll through the turn? How long do you let it roll through the turn? Are you on/off/maintenance throttle when you let the car roll through the turn? What is the advantage of letting the car roll through the turn?
Last time I was at the track, I feel like I did the correct technique on a couple of turns (coming off brakes, rolling through, patience with throttle application, full throttle) and picked up about 0.5-0.6 seconds on just these turns. Could not consistently do it and could not do it on every turn. If add that up over every turn, that gets the approx. 3 seconds that I am working on. Really want to completely learn, understand, and consistently be able to apply/achieve this cornering/turn technique.
2) I know it is important to look down the track/to look ahead. How far ahead should you be looking? Where should you be looking when you are coming down the straight and into the upcoming turn? Where should be looking when you start to brake? Where should be looking when you start the turn-in? Where should be looking when you are at the apex? Where you should be looking when you are tracking out/how far should be looking down/already to the next turn?
All excellent questions glove! Looking forward to elaborating.

Quite a bit based on dyno pulls. 3-4 HP for 1/4 toe in rear.
That is a lot of toe though. The loss is probably non-linear.

It is in the rear, I hear people all the time running that much in the front. Also whats to say one whack of a curb doesn't give them that much.

What Jim said. I think all the front runners have basicaly the same set-up. Drastic toe is masking something else, either car or driver.

We typically set up at 0-1/16 in on rear, 1/16-3/32 out front. To each his own, this is just what has worked well for us. I see no measurable HP change on dyno from 1/8 toe in or less on rear.
