My donor is a 2000 ... It is unfortunately a CA emissions car... I have sourced a regular exhaust manifold to eliminate the o2 sensor that is in the CA model but will I need to replace the ECU with a nonCA car or will it just be fine with the CA ECU.. I have not been able to get a straight answer. I figure it will run but I want to know what is the most ideal for best hp results. I currently just have a stock motor but want to get everything setup properly. The car is currently at the cage shop and I am getting excited.

Thanks
Greg

I am not sure of the ideal result, but I will give an unconfirmed opinion. I had a 2000 street car that had the CA exhaust manifold. I replaced it with the federal version header. I think that any differences in the computer deal with emissions and not hp or TQ. I have never heard of anyone swapping out the ECU for that reason, but I could be wrong.

Mike,
Just plug and play or do I need to change anything else... New wire harness or change anything regarding o2 sensors?

Thanks

Drago and I discussed this as I built a 2000 with cal emotions as I rember it he dynnoed several ecus and there was no diff on the dyno. The ecu ended up going bad on us and eventually got changed out to a regular one. Jim would have the definitive answer on this since we tested to get this answer...

There is a difference, not much but the BP4w is a better ECU than the CA emission unit IMO

Just plug it in. You have to change the 02 wiring up a bit, but very easy, a 10 minute deal. The CA emission front o2 sensor connector is in the front of the engine. Pull that connector out of the harness, bring it to the back of the engine by the coil and plug in your primary O2 sensor in. The secondary 02 connector is already at the coil, plug in another o2 sensor into that connector and ground it. That way you will not get a a CEL

Low emissions not CA emissions. I believe that package was sold in multiple states beyond CA.

I think it is actually CA emissions. But it was sold though out the USA.

To me it is very odd in a spec class that this is really a question ..... But it is .... And it seems that people have spent Time and money on this.
Just got one on eBay .. Thanks all.

Engine management is not the same for an automatic as a manual car...

Hmmm...old thread but exactly what I needed. Have a CA car but I used the Fed exhaust as well. I also have the BPW4 ecu. Instead of stripping back the engine harness to get the pre-cat O2 sensor to reach the down pipe location, I just used a federal engine harness I had. Now I realize the ECU is looking for the 2nd O2 sensor(CEL)and I'm not sure if I have a place in a harness to plug one in?? Hope this makes sense and I can get some insight?
