On both my 97 and 99, I used a SD exhaust.  on both cars, it seemed like half way thru the season I started to get a loud rattle in the muffler section.  Has anyone experienced this same thing?  Is there a fix?  I am also wondering if this creates a performance problem.

I've seen welds inside the muffler break.  If you disconnect the exhaust from the downpipe, you might be able to see and hear inside the muffler what has come loose.

Yes, you lose the interior "baffle" as it breaks loose and rattles around.   Yes, it affects performance.   Fix is buy a  new exhaust :(.

I think the muffler can be replaced by someone with some welding skills.  It's an off the shelf muffler on those.

Any Rule of Thumb or suggestions on how long you would keep one until you should replace it?

One that's work fine but you have had for a couple seasons.

This is the second one I have had that problem with, and it is only the second season. Anyone have any experience with cutting the end off the muffler and re-tacking the baffle, if that is the problem?
