The Jersey Racing Board (Northern New Jersey and South Jersey Regions) and New Jersey Motorsports Park announce the fifth running of The Devil in the Dark 12 Hour endurance race on NJMP's Thunderbolt Circuit. The 2014 edition will be held on Saturday, 26 April 2014 and will again run from noon to midnight. There will be an SCCA Test Day on Friday, 25 April for 12 Hour competitors and other closed wheel cars.

This race is a continuation of the successful events run in the past four years. The format and rules will be very similar to last year with a no major changes from previous years' events. The open refueling rule is being retained as well as the consolidated endurance classes introduced in 2012. There may be some fine tuning of the endurance classes. If you missed The Devil last year, be sure to put it on your calendar for this year.

The entry package will be posted on the DLB online registration system in a week or so. Registration will open on 1 February 2014.

More participants, more fun in 2014!

SAVE THE DATE

Be seen by your team, the corner workers and officials...  Don't get black flagged in error because some another Miata passed under yellow.

Thanks guys - we're looking forward to this year's race.  I have already put in our order for a sunny, 60 degree day ....

John, thanks for the source for glowboards.  They are a great help to our flaggers and timers - so much so that they are required for The Devil

See ya at the races

Guys,

Planning on attending… few questions for the veterans.

Read through this part of last last years rules and I want to make sure I understand it.

From the rulebook of 2013:

IDENTIFICATION. Teams will be required to use illuminated number boards (glowboard) with a required minimum size of 12" x 12". Glowboard information is available from Crucial Motorsports ( www.crucialmotorsportsgroup.com ). Two sets of standard number decals (to be placed on the glowboards on either side of the car) will be provided to each team and are mandatory. Official region-supplied numbers must be applied prior to tech inspection. Glowboards must be installed during the night practice. Cars may be black flagged for repairs during night practice or the race if their glowboards or hood numbers are not visible. Hood numbers must meet GCR guidelines. Official race decals and Endurance Class identification must be displayed on both sides of the car.

Does this mean that the region supplies the decals to go over MY glow boards, or is the region requiring the use of their supplied decals AND glow boards? The VIR 13hr guys changed the rules last year to allow the use of any type of illuminated light visible from 50ft.  Is there any current discussion happening  for the 2014 supplements for the NJMP 12hr?

I don't care what the answer is, I just need to know so I can order, install, prep for this race.

Do i need my generator for pit lane power or is that supplied via outlets by the track?

Do we share pit spaces or do we all get one?

Thanks!

In all past years, the region has supplied the black vinyl numbers for YOUR glowboards as well as the class designation and the Enduro stickers.

I don't know about alternative visible number products - send a PM to Terry.

Pitlane does have outlets, but they can and do short/circuit break trip.  We've always taken a generator.

Each team gets a pit stall (though be warned, they seem pretty small when you actually use them).

Paddy

Yosh's info is good.  We will be supplying black vinyl numbers for your glowboards this year.  We are not considering alternatives.

Last year we had 45 24' pit spaces and completely filled the pit lane.  We are looking at alternatives to give everyone as much space as possible.

See ya at The Devil

The Draft Schedule and Supps for The Devil in the Dark have been posted on DLB . Registration is scheduled to open on 1 February.

The most significant change for 2014 is an adjustment in the Endurance Classes to spread the eligible cars more evenly over the five classes. The three LeChump classes for ChumpCar and LeMons have been added this year.  SSM and SM2 are in a different class than SM under the new class structure.

Also this year, a new NEDiv class - Spec Miata Tire (SMT) - for Spec Miatas with a wider selection of tires has also been added.  Cars must conform to the Spec Miata specifications but may use Toyo RA1 / R888 / RR or Hoosier SM6 / SM7 tires.

There is no change to the race operations or procedures.

Hope to see ya at The Devil

Terry

Can someone explain the lemons chump car classes to me. Does this mean that we are promoting putting the lowest dollar cars on track with cars some of us actually care about?

I have no idea why you'd equate value of car with how much I care about it.  I'll likely be in the LCC class with my car.  It's seen duty at autox, track days while I instruct, ice races, a Chump race and club races.  It's an ITA Civic.  I know full well that I put it in harm's way every time it leaves my garage, but otoh it exists for me to have fun with, and to enjoy with my closest friends.  However, this is the biggie, I can ill afford to sacrifice it, even though it was a cheap car.  Simply put, if it gets wadded up, my beloved racing and driving hobby gets put on extended hold.

I know for a fact, and have seen behaviors that back it up, that there are very expensive race cars out there whose owners feel are patently expendible.  So please don't equate car value with how the drivers will behave on track.  We all will be out there with the same license, and indeed, varying levels of talent.  The value of one's car has nothing to do with either.

Will
