Will, If its an ITA Civic.  Why not race it as an ITA?

As far as Lemons/Chump cars go the GCR has rules, even for region specific classes, and if these cars are not rules compliant I will have no problem writing a stack of protest.  The supplemental regulations can only compliment the GCR, not contradict it so the region/race cannot make non-compliant cars compliant.

I am certain some Lemons/Chump cars will be compliant, some not......

Mike, thanks for the reply.  It's a light prep car and we will be on street tires.  I'd have no problem running it in straight class if nothing else existed for us, but in reality it's a "better" Chump car than IT car, prep vs prep.  We'll be at or very near zero penalty laps next time it run at a Chump at LRP this year, so we feel it is well justified as an LCC car.

Compliance wise, we are good on SCCA safety, and pass letter and spirit as an IT car when it's run as such, last time at this year's ARRC.  It'll have an SCCA annual prior to the Devil.  We are compliant, if not heavy, to the LCC3 rules as presented on the JRB web site.

Can someone explain the lemons chump car classes to me. Does this mean that we are promoting putting the lowest dollar cars on track with cars some of us actually care about?

To amplify on what Will said, ChumpCar and LeMons racing is evolving.  Sure there are clown cars and a lot of frivolity but the top level of competition has well built cars and is prepared for serious competition.  These cars have an IT level prep on street tires without the tight specifications in the ITCS.  They are (realtively) low cost, creatively built cars.  Our first LeChump entry ran at NJMP last Oct - it was an BMW E36 which ran with a good ITS field and finsihed mid-pack.

Terry,

I just had a friend try to check out the registration info and noticed the link to register is not on the scca nj site, nor is it on the devilinthedark.com website.

Maybe it's buried somewhere on those sites or not working on Safari… I'm not sure.  It certainly isn't in an obvious place.

To someone who hasn't done this race before, I'd never know this race was open for registration if I didn't hop on this forum from time to time. Just a friendly tip!  Thanks again for the info last wk!

Yah bud.  That's how i registered.  It's extremely clear on this forum via Terry's posts.

If you want more than mazdaracers.com members to register for this event, it might be wise to activate a link on the nj scca site, and the race's dedicated website.

.

In 1966 during its inaugural season, the Trans-Am series visited the 12 Hours of Marlboro, a direct predecessor of The Devil in the Dark. The race at Marlboro was already an established sedan endurance race. Bob Tullius and Tony Adamowicz won the 12 Hour race that year over a field of international drivers and factory race cars driving Bob's factory 1966 Dodge Dart.

1966Trans-AmatMarlboro2.jpg

The 12 Hour was suspended in 1969 when Marlboro Raceway closed. The race was dormant for many years until it was revived at Summit Point in 1999 as the 12 Hours at the Point. The race flourished for eleven years as the premier endurance race for showroom stock and improved touring type vehicles. In 2010 the race move to its current home at New jersey Motorsports Park where it was renamed The Devil in the Dark.

The year Robert Benson and his brother James are entering their first 12 Hour race with Robert's venerable 1966 Dodge Dart.

Do you think that history can repeat itself? Will Lightning strike twice at the fifth running of The Devil in the Dark at NJMP? We will see on 26 April.

I hope to see ya at The Devil

NJMP opened in 2008 (it was the only year we didn't run the chicane in Grand Am), so the 2000 must be a typo.

Looking forward to my first DITD this weekend. vroom vroom!

Wow, how was that for a close overall finish!  Congrats to Elgin Racing/Meathead with their Mustang.  Car sounded great every time it lapped me.

We ran all 12 hours using 6 SM7's.  That being said all the drivers were on a conservative pace....we were staying off the curbs most of the race and weren't really loading the car up.  Pretty impressed with that tire though.

My first 12 Hours and what fun it was....nailbiter down to the very end. I think it was only a 19 second lead for our Elgin Racing Mustang at the end of 12 hours, and most of that can be attributed to some wicked fast stops by the Meathead crew. It was a bit of a challenge running the last 20 minutes without brakes, but we pulled it off. Thanks to Elgin Racing for the opportunity to pilot the Mustang. My co-drivers David Jacobs and Greg Obadia did great (they are SM5 regulars in the MARRS series).

Thanks to everyone for playing nice the entire weekend. Lots of patience involved with that much speed difference.

Congrats to the Dewspeed guys for the E3 win.

Another hell of an event... the Elgin Mustang was just plain mean, albeit every curteaous working through traffic.  Congrats guys as well as team Dewspeed.

Our #70 S.A.C. E3 hotrod came up 25 min short, although the S.A.C. team was impressive, detail oriented and passionate from the outset.

Now if I could just figure out how to drive like Elivan, who spent some time in the team #25 car, I'd be a happy man.

See you at VIR....
