Last year when I needed a quiet exhaust to run at Atlanta Motorsports Park, I searched and found this:

http://www.carchemistry.com/2-disk-insert-2-diameter/

It has worked pretty well, and several SM's that run there regularly are using it.

Note that a modification is needed (for the SD exhaust, anyway), because the Car Chemistry's next size up (2.25" O.D.) is too big to slip into the SD tail pipe (also 2.25" O.D).  So, to use the too-small 2" silencer, we cut eight slits in one of the round baffles, then bent out the "ears" to take up the gap.

You'll also need some type of method to secure it within the tail pipe.  We've tried a few different ways.  The attached picture shows screws and a hose clamp to keep the screws in place, but a better method is a HD cotter pin that goes thru the tail pipe and center of the silencer.

Very interesting.  In my old SRX7, I used a similar setup.  It was the center tube, packed with fiberglass on the outside (All parts sourced from a local motorcycle shop).  (exhaust was more similar to the Mazdaspeed SSM exhaust).   I'd shove it into the end of the tailpipe and use a set screw.  Worked well to keep the neighbors appeased when I'd start the car up on the weekends.  Later, when I switched to a setup closer to the SD, I didn't bother.  Neighbors hated me though. :)

What dB did you need to pass?  Any idea of the actual dBs with this in?

I think AMP's limits are 98 db at 50'.

My hunch is I was not too close to that or they would have talked to me about it.

At the time I had a new SD exhaust plus the Car Chemistry slip-in.
