Howdy everyone,

I am currently transferring the parts from the diy cool-shirt system that came with the car from an old leaky cooler to a new one that seals better.  I'm also adding a cool-shirt brand helmet blower like I had in my old vintage racer.  Is anyone using a system that cools the helmet air ? How effective is it ?

I can't seem to find the aluminum extruded tubes that Cool-shirt or F.A.S.T. use in their systems.

Cool shirt offers this:

They said that they use a transmission cooler in that, so... I found this for $40:

Thinking I could put it in the tube before the fan, but wondering if it is at all worth it ?

I run one with a Simpson helmet that delivers air to the top of my head.  I don't use the shirt anymore, as the cool head seems to keep me comfortable and more alert.  It really doesn't feel cool after several laps (90-100º days) but when I shut it off, I can really feel the difference.  Mine is the CoolShirt brand with a "U" tube running through the cooler.

I am good friends with Jill who owns Fresh Air Systems, and I have told her the same thing. Don't bother with the cooler, get a blower system for the helmet to blow fresh air into the helmet. The air is not cooled effectively by the cooler. You get a nice blast of cold air at first, but then it is just air. Save the cooler space and expense for extra ice for the cool shirt.

Thanx guys !

I never had issues with just having a blower.  But having the cool shirt now is soooooo nice that I was getting greedy !  And I was wondering how the lines would have to be routed so one didn't take away from the other.

Sounds like I should just install the blower and call it a day !
