Sadly, at this point I am thinking he may never recover at all.

It's actually something serious for everyone to consider. I have a DNR. If I cannot survive on my own I really don't want to be artificially kept alive after a certain amount of time...

I'm not sure I'd like a DNR if it was head injury related. Not sure what else Drs can do with a coma now a days.
They do that induced coma, relieves swelling, and sometime your good to go, but sometimes not.
Whole Meathead or nothing huh ?

Mine has a fixed period of time. It's not an immediate thing. I do not want to live forever on a machine.

While his injuries are substantial, that story is misleading. Doctors treating him have said nothing in the last few weeks. All statements come from the family via Sabine Kehm. I suppose one could look at it as the docs haven't given a date because they've said nothing about a date. A DNR states that if you code, don't bring you back. Different that what is happening here. They are keeping him under to treat the brain injury. We know that from the reports of the doctors treating him (from about 3 weeks ago) that he has several hematomas that need treatment. Much of the speculation is based on comments in which former F1 medical delegate Dr Gary Hartstein gave his observation of the situation based on his general experience, not examining Schumacher directly. It's a good read, informative and I think objective in spite of the fact he's not treating the patient. He posts to Twitter and his blog. http://formerf1doc.wordpress.com

Jeeezus Christ Johnny ??!!! "My favorite vegetable" (and people call me an asshole) Does that qualify as hate mail?
As far as Shumacher goes - if I had that kind of power to predict the future I'd be sitting in Vegas right now.
Not just a DNR, you should have a durable power of attorney and a living will. Right Frank T.?

I predict if Mrs Shumacher read your post she'd gladly assist with your DNR.

Sorry, I'm blunt.
I'm with Mike, give a few weeks, whatever.
Yes, things could get better but you know the odds are dropping.
The family emotional side is very hard, not to loose him. But what have we heard.
I'm not there, I'm not Dr.
I'll be quite.

Reminds me of Massa when he got injured.
All the experts who were not treating him were calling him a vegetable at best. He did came back and one could argue better than before.
So I guess it's a toss and nobody really knows...
We can just wish him the best at this point.

Neurosurgeons at a medical conference in Hannover, Germany, made Schumacher's condition a topic of discussion during their meeting. They said that medically induced comas beyond eight days are dangerous because there is the possibility of permanent brain damage. If Schumacher comes out of the coma, he could suffer memory loss or be in a permanent vegetative state for the rest of his life.
Schumacher has been in the coma since entering the hospital in Grenoble, France.
Currently, Schumacher is listed in "stable, but critical" by the hospital. His wife, Corinna, his two children and close family are with him at the hospital. A phalanx of fans of the seven-time Formula One World Champion have been waiting outside the French hospital and wishing for any sign of improvement.

yup something racers don't like to think about but should. In Ohio we have a document called a living will which sets out your wish that you do not wish to be kept alive when your brain is dead. sometimes doctors will not pull the plug without such a declaration for fear of being sued by some lawyer.
While your at it doing your estate planning, take time to consider who to will the race car to and who will take care of your children and pets if you and the wife are taken out at turn one in Atlanta. Also while your at it sign up to be an organ donor.
Now back to Schumacher the fact that he is still in an induced coma is more positive than negative at this point, that means he still has a fighting chance. Not a place you want to be however. Brain injury is still somewhat unpredictable, most doctors will wait for 12 months to pass before the will render a final prognosis, depending on the circumstances.

Well, if Johnny can make it with very few lingering issues...I'm sure Shumacher has a fighting chance

Just a small update on his condition, small positive steps. The story of the hospital worker who stole his Schumacher's medical records is bizarre.
