Does anyone know if Cen-Div will be offering the SMT class again for 2014?
Also are the tire rules for the class posted somewhere? Is it "open tire" or just "Toyo".
Thanks!

I believe SMT has allowed running whatever DOT tire you want in the approved size. I would think it would continue as a class but if not you can enter STL and run tires other than Hoosier SM7. The first clue might be when the entry for the April race at Blackhawk is available for viewing at motorsport.reg
As far as I know, there is no word of NOT having SMT, so I would assume that you can expect to see it.

And SM backmarker ;-)

Being from the Chicago Region do you know what class SMT is runs with? Is it paired with SM?
Just curious as I'm doing the Blackhawk Farms drivers school and race in April.
Is it paired with SM?
No, at the Fall Sprints at the Farm the race group was, SMT, STL, ITE2, H prod, GTL.
Looked at a event sheet for SM race group. SM, GTA, SPO, ITS, E prod.

SMT was designed as a second race group for SM cars to compete. Read that as another set of entry fees for the region. Thus it is never combined with SM and is generally seperated by a couple race groups in the schedule.
The T stands for Touring. The only rules difference is you can run any DOT approved tire in SMT, including the Hoosier that is required in SM. Once the SM6 is outlawed for SM, you will be able to use it in SMT.
I'm confused now

The "T" stands for Tire. It was originally conceived as Spec Miata - Open Tire.
Yes, it is for entries, but at the time, there was also a large number of SM drivers who did not want to be limited to whatever the Spec rock was at the time the class was created.
We actually had cars running only in SMT, not SM.
Now everyone runs in both, plus STL.
Divisional races will thus have SM, SMT, and STL for the same car, with SM and STL points counting towards runoffs qualifying. (plus EP, FP, GT3, SPU, ITE2.....)
