Has any one wired up a set of the Longacre Smi stepper motor gauges. it has two power wires, Brown wire to ignition switch for switched power and a Red wire "to ignition switch so power is always on" "allows pointer to always return to 0 when shut off".

so is it one or the other, or do i need to hook up both one to switched and one to always powered?

In my experiences wiring gauges in other cars before, use a multimeter to find your switched power and non-switched power. I usually have success with the radio harness and I believe the miata has both required in the harness. I think I bought a cheap "aftermarket" radio harness so there was no splicing into the existing harness.

Red to hot and Brown to switched if you want the stepper motor to drive the pointer back to zero when you shut the motor down.

Thanks, that is how i read the directions but they could have been clearer, as they said red to ignition switch or unswiched power. they should have just said unswiched power from any source.

I have things torn apart so i do not want to have to go back in there once i close it up.

You can do it either way, as described in the directions.  However, the end results will be different operation of the gauge depending on the way you hook it up.
