As we have now begun the 2014 season with a bang, or in my case a thud, it is time to look forward in to the year....

April at Thunderhill will be a good weekend and the temps should be optimal and the lap times should be also!!  At nearly 4 weeks outs you have plenty of time to tune it up and get your schedule cleared.  Sign up before April 14 and you can withdraw if need and get your funds back (less the usual fee) if life gets in the way of your racing.

Plan on Warm-up, Qualifying, Race both days.  Rumors say that we may turn left as we enter the track on Sunday tho.....

Sign up here:

http://www.nasaprora....com/event/1774

Also, Start thinking about getting signed up for Mazda Raceway at Laguna Seca in July. Last year the group size was capped and many were turned away for failing to pre register.  This year there is no preregistration requirement, just first come first served.  This group is anticipated to sell out due to a large interest in track time here this year.   Registration is now open.....

See ya at the track...

I think I'm going to try and do the race or TT on Sat.  Will hit NASA's site to learn about what I need to do to cross over.

Hey everybody,

I am new to the forum. And am looking to get behind the seat of a miata. Any miata will do, but here is my idea-- I live in Santa Cruz and have done two different track days (one with NASA and one with HOD). I would like to go to Thunderhill with Nasa and run in the A or B group for HPDE, which is basically just a track day with optional instructors. The problem is that my car that I was using an Alfa Romeo 164, is way too difficult to find parts for and expensive to work on. I do all the work, but when you can't even find performance brake pads for the car-- you start to realize it isn't a good track machine.

I am 23 years old, friendly, smart and looking to make friends who have the ability to throw me a bone and let me take a car out on the track. I will not thrash equipment and really this is a way for me to develop my line, track skills, and be on my way for the next SCCA driving school. In return for letting me use the car on the track-- hoping to get out both days (Sat and Sun) I will help out with any and all pit duties you need for the car. I am an apprentice to a mechanic in Santa Cruz, mostly for fun and to earn spending money-- so, I can help out with whatever needs done (or take lead).

The limiting factor for me is financially, as I can't blow all my money on one track day or I won't be able to go out again. Therefore, the arrive and drive option for a spec miata is completely out the window. However, if I was to crash the car (which unless someone hits me or a wheel falls off won't happen) I would cover the cost of the car.

Even if you have just some parts miata that runs I'll take that out. Or even if it isn't a miata but you have a car that I can track that'd be awesome. I wouldn't mind doing some work before hand on it like brakes and finding tires etc., so please shoot me any and all offers you can think of.

Thanks,

Max

Max,

Doubtful anyone who rents spec miatas is going to throw you a "bone". And though you cant afford to "rent" on top of paying the HPDE fee...you say you will fix the car if something happens?? I sincerely doubt anyone will take that statement serious. But if in fact you have the money to buy a car...there are several around. A few as low as $7k. PM me if you want more info.

That said, there are a lot of generous people around the track and in the spec miata community. I have been known to let people drive my car on a hand shake...but you are going have to come out, hang around, help, watch...basically make friends. Good luck!

Max, Al Angelo rents spec miatas for a very reasonable price.  His # is 530 277 6311.  He really caters to the guys still doing HPDE.

I won't be attending the Thill event this weekend, but it am in the market for a Spec Miata "roommate" for Garage 5 at Thill in the future. I normally race SCCA Spec Miata (although, due to a mysterious electrical gremlin, my car hasn't been able to race yet this year), and I am the primary tenant for G5, located right across the paddock from the Thill Grille & Cubhouse. I have one other co-tenant, a Panoz that has never left the garage, which is up on castored stands for moving around as needed. I am hoping to find another co-tenant, preferably a NASA Spec Miata person to share in 1/3 of the rent for a well-equipped (tools, jacks, stands, fridge, storage racks), enclosed & secure place to board your car & use on race weekends. I figured that one good thing about having a NASA car & an SCCA car there is we would, for the most part, have very little overlap on race weekends.
Call text or PM me if interested.
