What is this part used for? (on a '97 1.8L)

I just realized I didn't install it back when putting my new motor in... I guess I wasn't sure what the purpose of it really was. Should I put it back? Circled on red here (18-265A):

Looks to be a bracket to secure the camshaft sensor in place.  The other bolt for the sensor appears to go in a slotted hole on the sensor itself and this would 'wrap around' it to secure it on that side.

Yeah, I figured that much ;-0

Now that I'm looking at it more, it could be to prevent the camshaft sensor to spin around if the long 12mm bolt breaks.

It's a long shot but who knows what those Japanese Engineers where thinking...

 

Anyhow, I'm putting it back on, just because!
