I am in the process of replacing all the plastic bearings in my SM.  My question is how do I remove/replace the large black bearing that the big shifter ball rides on (not the small white cup).  It appears to be held in place by 2 pins sticking out the side of the turret.  I have tapped lightly on these pins with a punch and they do not want to seem to move,  any suggestions are welcome, thanks!

Thanks Dave, but there must be some secret I'm missing, I can't really get the right angle and there is little room to swing the hammer, is there a certain tool or technique to use or perhaps it is better to take the 'cap' off the turret and do it on a workbench?

Are you trying to tap the "forward" pin in the "forward" direction?  You don't have to tap it all the way out.  No special tool other than a punch long enough to get you room to tap?

Yes, you can take the 4-bolt turret cap off, too.

If the wave washer is in tact beneath, you may not be gaining anything here.  I've never seen that bushing break, or wear to a point of not doing its job.  The wave springs cracking is somewhat common.
