I'm changing my pads and rotors, and looking at the caliper closely. The rubber boot on the piston is torn. The caliper doesn't seem to be leaking, and I think the boot is just to keep dust out. Is it safe to use it like this or do I have to rebuild the calipers? I have a track day this weekend and it won't be easy to rebuild them that quick.

Hey Andrew, I haven't changed the pads on the Miata since taking it on track but my Integra would melt the dust boots the first session out. I never worried about it. I say put your new pads on and go have fun.

Grease the shaft, make sure the caliper is working well and in good condition, bleed the brakes.

You could get a boot in time for this weekend, but ya it's a dust cover.

Also it's shouldn't melt off. :)
