I have 4 RA-1's that I had shaved to 3/32 with 5 runs on them and I have a nail in one of them. So looks like I will need to get a replacement tire.

Should I get another tire shaved at 2/32 to match the other 3 tires or just get another 3/32?

Thanks

Tires don't wear evenly on all 4 corners. I'm constantly rotating my tires so I put the most rubber where it wears the fastest. I'd go 3/32 and put it on the most heavily loaded tire. It will match the others soon enough.

Where's the nail? If its in the sidewall you need a new tire. If its in the tread, plug it and run it.

Or remove and patch...unless there is a rule against this?

Never heard of anybody patching a race tire. I wouldn't do it. Even running street tires on race cars we didn't patch them.

Should NEVER EVER plug a radial tire for any use. All manufactures of competition tires recommend to not repair race tires at all.

I agree with Keith to get a 3/32 and put it where it wears the hardest.

I'll second what Joe said, NEVER EVER EVER patch a race tire. For a street car that never gets much hotter than ambient temp, OK. For a race tire that sees 170+ degrees no way.

Great advise...my original reply was definitely a big question mark. Found out plugs don't work well on my trailer tires...though it did get me home :)
