I know the consensus is MTL, with the occasional person using other options, but a non-SM shop owner told me the other day that he had been using Lightweight Shockproof for some time, with good results, which made me curious.

Thanks..

A non-SM shop owner suggested something else which you might be considering for your SM? With all due respect, why would you just not use what most SM racers are using which is Redline MTL? I'm sure there other options, but why add another variable to all the decisions one has to make.

I'm a longtime Red Line user in a number of different cars. I would not use the Lightweight Shockproof in the SM transmission.

Shock proof is for dog ring type boxes.

Hum, I've had it in my diff for a 2-3 season now with no problems. Would not put in the Trans though.

LWSP is too slippery for some limited slips and for syncro boxes, without an added friction modifier.

Ok, thanks for the replies! If you want to buy two bottles of LWSP off me, PM me. It doesn't appear I need them.

Yes. Hint: Put it in the turret before you fill the trans so you never wind up being just short of enough.

2 quarts. The manual says 2.1. Depends on how level your car is. I usually get it dribbling out before I get both qts in but you don't want to get both quarts in and then look over to see your shifter sitting on the work bench.

Kinda funny. Have used RL LW shock proof in our trans since back in the speedvision cup days...We had over 40,000 race miles on our stock transmissions with probably 20 different drivers and never had a failure. The one failure we had was when we used MTL...so go figure....

I've used it in the shifter turret with no issue. At least it won't go to waste.

Which leads to the question of how often do you replace the oil in the shifter turret?
I have only done it once in 2 seasons. Would that explains I'm seconds off-pace? Hah!

I've blown up motors but I'm not going to blame it on running the wrong motor oil for one weekend.
