What a f'ing idiot. He endangered the life of innocent people. I really hope that the next time he plays Billy Joe Badass and chases a burglar over a few hundred bucks of stuff he gets shot in his stupid f'ing head. Killed protecting his stereo - that would be PERFECT!
I feel better now.
(I've had my entire home ransacked and burgled before - I know how much it sucks)

You're in great company -- I'm sure every thief feels the same way.

It's just stuff - it can be replaced - it's likely insured. Also, most if not all states prohibit the use of deadly force to protect property (Texas is probably the exception).
Suppose a child walks in front of ol' Barney Fife while he's in hot pursuit. His little adventure wouldn't be so cute.

Opinions are like...
It is a basic human right to protect one's property. There was a time in this country when that wasn't in question and any potential consequence of that effort would have been shouldered by the offending party. Some public opinion may disagree with that and liability risks being what they are, prompt the author of the article to put in his disclaimer. But, there are those who view it differently.

I won't argue for the wisdom of chasing a thief. But wishing death to the victim just shows whose side one is really on.

Imagine how our hero would feel if he came around the corner and found the guy he was chasing had killed someone in a crash. His life would be ruined. Most enlightened police departments have very strict rules about car chases.

And yes in Texas I can use a long range rifle to shoot someone stealing my property or even my neighbors property.
However, chasing people is incredibly dangerous for everyone, not smart. As much ad we all would like to catch a thief what the hell are we going to do when we catch them.
