I know this guy who showed up to grid late on Saturday.  The dumb bast#rd forgot his driving gloves.  It turns out he was so late he wasn"t allowed to chase down the field.  He had to start the race from pit road.  So once the entire field was passed the start finish line he was released to join the end of the field.  So around and around he goes.  He finishes the race after passing numerous cars and completing the same number of laps as the leaders.  When he looks at the results he is scored a lap down.

So the poor Sum B#tch not only had to start from pit road but got a 1 lap penalty.  I/he want to understand what the deal is.  I looked at the rules and all they say is, if you are late you start at the end of the field.  What's the deal?

The field crossed Start/Finish and Timing and Scoring began their lap while you were sitting in the pits. When you left the pits, you had not crossed start finish so Timing and Scoring dod not score your start until the end of your lap 1, when you finally crossed the Start/Finish.

Doesn't seem fair. If you are to be held in the pits, you should be held back BEFORE Start/Finish so you begin collecting laps along with everyone else.

You got a double penalty for no gloves.

P.S. Did you have the right racing shoes?

Timing and scoring was wrong....I have not been to daytona but you should not be a lap down...you can most certainly cross start finish in pit lane....  Did you start the race in front of the line?  I would have backed up and started behind the line before the green came out ;)

Mike is correct.  I also know a guy who has been in a similar situation a few times over the years.  He has always been scored as starting on the same lap as everyone else.

Dont feel that bad.. I once forgot my helmet! I was at Atlanta and it was just before they blew the 5. i made it , barely! No idea how I could forget a helmet, but I did :)

i would think if you  went to timing  and scoring they could fix that?

Thanks all.  Since I was 20th it really didn't matter but it just didn't seem right.

My routine is to leave my gloves in the car.  I have know idea what I did to place them in our paddock area.  Old geezer syndrome I guess.

I was 20th, I was 20th....
