We're doing an enduro that runs into the night this year. Love to see some set ups and get ideas (mounting and wiring). On the old forum, I saw it suggested to keep it under 200W, but not much more info. Others have told me to cross the beams so they hit the apexes.

Thanks,
Kyle Burkhardt

I run piaa lights in the grill. They come with a harness and you don't have to screw up your car. They are about the size of a racket ball.

I worked with a former Rally car crew chief for our enduro lights that we used at VIR and Sebring this year. Then fabbed a removable bracket so we did not have to run the lights in daylight. Both to save aerodynamicly and to eliminate risk to the light bar in case of a daytime crash. They worked great but were pricey.

I used miltary switches with built in circuit breakers and fabed a switch plate to mount next to the shifter. Again, a little pricey, and probably overkill, but they worked great.

Total cost was close to $800 per car, but even the old guys where able to see at night.

An HID conversion kit would go a long way towards improving the output of the factory housings and would only use 35W.

+1 on the HID kit (55w is great)

A solid yet simple to install & remove light bar is key... Then put a LED light on it any you'll think it daytime.

I use John's light bar and like it. Any gentle bumps won't bother the lights. I used 5 of the the Harbor Freight $10 100W lights, but the output is poor and they are pencil pattern which you don't want. For wiring, I disabled the headlight motors and unplugged the stock headlights and had 400W going through the highbeam circuit without problems. The 100W went through the marker light circuit IIRC. I bumped up the fuse on one of those two by 30% I think. Like everything else, do this at your own risk ;)

On a budget I would go for a wider patterned halogen light and convert it to HID. Also, the O'Reilly HID kit isn't bad at all and conveniently packages all the HID stuff inside the light housing so all you gotta do is add 12V. I'll probably try some of those this season.

If you plan on only doing one night time race in the middle of summer, you can get away with some cheaper installations. Like anything else in racing, if you do it right, it will pay off in the long run. So if you plan to do multiple night races, spend the time and money to make everything right. The investment will make your night racing more enjoyable.
