Okay, just bought a 90 miata and was looking for a good clutch and flywheel to replace my slipping oem clutch for hpde events until I get this thing race ready. I was told by a guy who attends hpde events all the time in his miata that he bought a clutch and aluminum flywheel off of ebay for $350 bucks. I kind of laughed inside but kept a straight face. So I later checked just for fun on ebay for a aluminum flywheel and clutch and just as he said there was a set for sale for around $350 bucks. My gut instinct screams stay away but before i pull the trigger on a much more expensive mazdaspeed unit I thought I would atleast ask if anybody has tried one and what were the results? Here is a link to one I found.

If your trying to put something in that will be SM legal you can't use the lightweight flywheel. You can get your factory one resurfaced and use an ACT clutch and pressure plate combo.

Jay is spot on. You are required to run a stock flywheel in Spec Miata. I'd suggest getting a new pressure plate and disc and resurfacing the flywheel (if it really needs it).

Thanks guys, I completely forgot about the lighter flywheel rule. Thanks for getting back to me so quickly!

Even if using it for something other than SM, like the HPDEs prior to getting your license, I'd stay away from aluminum flywheels. My car came with a Fidanza and every bolt hole has little cracks radiating from it. Failures aren't all that uncommon and can be very spectacular.
