What do you typically load up to take with you to the track? I know some of you guys probably roll with trailers loaded with spare engines, subframes, transmissions and differentials, but what are your "must have" items?
I'm thinking (at minimum):
Socket set (extensions, deep well, regular, etc.)
Torque wrench
Breaker bar
Floor Jack
Hammer
Screwdrivers
Fuses
Electrical wire, connectors and tape
Crimper/stripper tool
Voltmeter/Multimeter
5 qts Oil
Spare Oil filter
Trans fluid
Diff fluid
Hand Pump
Spare set of brake pads and rotors
2 qt brake fluid
Speedbleeder/drain bottle
Other ideas?
I'm obviously excluding things like water/fluids for the driver, cooler, sunscreen, chair, ez-up, etc.- looking more at what you take for mechanical/field maintenance items.
If you're not going to carry a spare transmission or diff, I'm not sure if there's any value in carrying around gear oil. In three years of racing a Spec Miata I've never drained the engine, transmission or diff oil at the track.
I have however, bled my brakes on more than one occasion.
Most of the spares I carry are to repair damage from contact. Therefore I always have.
- Suspension parts for all 4 corners, to include shocks, tie rods, ball joints, etc...
- Calipers and brake lines.
- Pads and Rotors.
For reliability related items, I carry.
- Transmission and clutch
- Master and Slave cylinders for clutch.
- Brake Master Cylinder
- New Coil, plugs, wires, cam and crank sensors.
- ECU
- fuel pump
Things I should probably carry, but haven't acquired yet.
- Spare diff
- rear axles
- alternator
FWIW, I have a 26ft GN trailer and a relatively long tow to some tracks, so space is not at a premium, and my tolerance for fixing something before packing up and going home might be higher than most.
This also doesn't include the tools.
