Just put a new motor in a 99. It is a CA car with a federal ECU and engine harness. As expected a CE light popped up as the CAT configuration is not correct. But when checking the diagnostic port with a scanner...no data pops up. Pretty sure there is power but...??? Any ideas? BTW...the car runs fine but it would seem the ecu and port arent talking?

There is a fuse that powers the data port. It is labeled something you would not expect to run that item. Check all fuses.

Like Dave said check the fuses. Also you have to remember it is a CA car so they use dif. AF, 02, sensors and ECM for there emissions.

Understood. But getting nothing is weird?

Back track and check everything again when i get back to the car!

You can use a volt meter at the obd 2 connector and see if you have power there. If you don't you will have to get an EWD electrical wiring diagram and ohms test the wires back to the ECM to see if you have any opens.

There is a big main connector under the dash. Blue or green as I recall. I have seen the terminals break inside the plastic housing and cause this same issue. I think that car may have had a swimming issue at one time in its life.
