Just thinking about ways to keep the large body of 1.6 built race cars from becoming relegated to DEs and parts bins. (and 1.8 cars till 98)

Some time ago Mazda speed was working on a SMT kit , for making a simple bolt on turbo kit for the SM ( T)  class.

This could bring new excitement to the 1.6 cars which people are not looking to put money into as they are not keeping up with the newer cars.

It does not look like the 1.6 is a good candidate for vintage racing, and modern technology is able to provide an inexpensive upgrade that will make the car fast and fun, and not too hard on the purse strings.

Just an Idea, the group could run together in sm class as the speed power increase would not be that great.  Cars  could have mazda speed provided waste gates for  max boost and a sealed ecu or a mega squirt unit, a kit of this nature could be put together for 2500-3000k.

The cars would not be low level entry cars anymore and the speed/power increase could appeal to guys wanting more hp and technology.

Just an idea for keeping hundreds of  mazdas on track for years to come.
