I am trying to remove the outside seal on the rear glass so I can paint the hardtop.  Is there a How To on this or can some someone explain to me how to do this.  I do not need to remove the glass completely just the outside seal so that I can get a clean paint job on the top.  I am trying to avoid taking the top to a glass shop or worse break the glass in the process.  Thanks in advance for the assistance.

Also if someone could explain how to put a new seal in place once the top is done with paint.  Again thank you.

They make a special tape that lifts the trim off the surface of the body so you can paint under it without removing it. Alternatively, you can use electrical wire or weed wacker line. Wedge it under the seal to lift the edge off the hard top, and then wrap the seal in tape. I would not bother removing it.

The seal is already starting to come off on one of the corners and it is missing the little connector at the top center so I want to go ahead and replace it .  Does this seal have an adhesive holding it or does it fit in a groove?

The rubber gasket is glued into the top along with the window. Be VERY VERY carefull. That glass is only available from Mazda and is not cheap. It also has to be shipped in a big heavy box. Also not cheap. I would glue the loose piece, mask it off and paint. Unless you like the risk

I was able to get the seal out. Now to just finish the prep work and paint the top.
Decision time: to paint the top black or the color of the car. (Laguna Blue)
