I'm looking at these two setups. Main difference is second one has "bead blaster" to help inflate lower profile tires. This will be primarily used for SM tires and occasional street car tires.

Anyone using this? Recommendations?

TIA

Paul,

We have the Greg Smith OMBO-TC229-WB11 set up.  We have used it for about 3 years.  It works just fine once you learn how to use it.  Mike (MPR22) does the tire dismounting and mounting and I do the balancing.  It is very convenient to have these units available whenever we need them.

Paul i looked at that stuff as they are close to us, they have a distribution center in Indy. I went with Eagle equipment and got this combo for far less. I have used this on all my SM tires, trailer tires car tires, no issues works fine, does not bugger up the rims could not be happier for the money.

It has a bead blaster on in it but have never needed it.

Had the Atlas Tire Changer and balancer for 7 years. For the DIY / racer they are fine and will do the job. For commercial use I would think you should

invest in a better quality (non-Chinese) brand. Had an issue with the tire changer that required some work but that was after changing over 250 tires on it.

I'm not telling anyone how they should spend their money and I like having lots of tools.

A quick calculation tells me that it would take 25 years for me to break even on the cost of a "budget" tire changer and balancer.

Walter, I may need to borrow that calculator. I run between 3-4 sets of tires per year, plus I flip them at least once. So 4 tires, 6-8 changes per year at $20 per tire runs about $480-$640. Also, the convenience is nice as I sometimes end up making that last minute frantic run to the tire shop... and I like tools. :optimist:

I'm fortunate the have a retired fellow in my area who mounts and balances 4 tires for $36 (the SCCA member price). Plus it helps the guy out. I'm also "fortunate" in that I can afford one, or two at the most, sets of new tires per year. :tipsy:

I bought an older Hoffman tire machine, $600.

I use a HF bubble balancer $60.

I've used this without issue for several years and probably do a couple of 100 tires a year.

Funny you're mentioning this. I discovered it a couple of weeks ago and placed an order promptly!

I went with the 5000# version as I need it more for my other vehicles than the Miata but it looks like it would still fit eventhough it's a little longer...

I bought the 3000# version a little while back. It's worth every penny.

I stumbled on to this a few weeks ago also, someone had posted on Facebook. A buddy of mine has one and takes it to the track. He loves it. Only thing he said was it can be hard to use in the grass but otherwise liked it. I will likely pull the trigger once i get the other things done i need to do first.

I can use it at home also but handy at the track.
