So I replaced the driveshaft in my 99 after pulling the old one and finding that it was unhappy doing its intended job (large thunks when moving each end).

Today I was under the car with a UV flashlight (long story) and I saw that both ends of the new driveshaft were throwing out some UV reflective oil. Is it standard for new driveshafts?

This is the driveshaft in question:

Thanks in advance.

Looks like a little grease. I would watch it for a bit but it looks normal

Diagnosis:  This driveshaft spent time in a Super 8 with Drago and Stearns ... (ask them about "The Hold Pillow" story ....seriously a contender for the best SM story of all time if you ask me! ....)

Joking aside, I wouldn't worry about that U-joint grease unless it continued.  Wipe down and re-check later.

Did you weigh that thing? Non-OEM ones I have checked are significantly heavier than stock. Granted a driveshaft is very low MOI, but I wouldn't add a couple pounds there just to save a few bucks.

Years ago we tried to find someone who could put replaceable joints in one but struck out. Don't recall why but may look again.

Agreed on the weight, but this is a budget build for now.

My understanding is that is illegal in NASA SM to change to replaceable joints?
