Storylines/Things To Watch For
Major League: In September 2012, the Sports Car Club of America rolled out the U.S. Majors Tour as the top level of amateur racing in this country. The Majors Tour replaces what was previously called "National" SCCA racing, split into a season-long championship in five geographic Conferences.

SCCA Club Racers – The Best in the Country: There are lots of amateur road racing groups in the United States, but the clear leader of top drivers is with the SCCA. Though most are weekend warriors who take vacations from their full-time jobs to attend races, it's a craft taken seriously. Bobby Rahal, Mark Donohue, Roger Penske, Michael Andretti, and actor/driver Paul Newman got their start in SCCA Club Racing. More recently, you could have seen current stars Boris Said, Graham Rahal, Sam Hornish or J.R. Hildebrand at an SCCA Club race.

Spec Miata Special: A total of 42 drivers will take the historic Virginia road course. Large fields in this class have been a staple in the Southeast Conference, thus far, and that trend continues for this race weekend. Notable competitors, including Alex Bolanos, Todd Buras, Andrew Carbonell, Mike Collins, Nick Leverone and Dillon Machavern, will be in attendance with a cast of other drivers that will put on a great show both days.

Spectacular Super Touring Lite: The STL crowd has come out in droves to support this event. With 24 drivers slated to start the doubleheader event, the touring group should produce some great battles throughout the field. Be sure to pay attention to some of the close racing further back in the pack.

Super Spec Racers: The two classes of Spec Racer Fords will equal a total of 56 entries. The field has a nearly even split between the old- and new-generation cars. With such a large field, it should be interesting to see the performance differences between the two generations of cars.

Virginia Thunder: While severe weather is not in the forecast for this weekend's event, there will be some thunder rolling through the Virginia countryside. With 51 entries in the big-bore race group, this will be one of the most exciting races to watch on both Saturday and Sunday. Be prepared for the ground to shake each time the field of high-horsepower beasts comes thundering by.

Wow, Danny has podiumed almost every race and he didn't make the field of notables racing this weekend, I watched practice yesterday and several Miatas got practice of running off wet track, hitting tire wall, bouncing off and continuing on their merry way. As I was leaving, someone moved the entire tire wall behind tech. Quite impressive on a wet track.

See you Sunday. I'm 30 miles away at Orange County Speedway with 65 Late Models for our 2nd race of the season.

Congrats to Johnathan Goring, Alex and Danny on the podium finishes. Lots of nice Drives today. I watched what I could on live coverage. It looked like Dillon was right where he wanted to be on the last lap, not sure what happened, but he fell back to 4th on last 1/2 lap. I thought Blake was in place for a majors podium, but still a very solid 5th in a tough field.

As for yesterdays race.. That start was a joke! How they started that race like that is beyond me. The bad decisions made by a stewart or stewarts endangered lives and did well over 100k in damage to race cars with a few being right offs.. It is only SM, those guys are used to crashing anyway! Maybe we need a special committee on how to insure our safety, seems like we start a new a new committee for everything else but what is really needed.   :(

This stinks and should be addressed and not swept under the rug like the June Sprints start from 2011!

Watched the starter stand video a couple times. Sure doesn't look like the kitty litter caused anything. They were 5 wide and wrecking before they even got to it.

Same video I saw. First several rows made it thru the you see them 5 wide and crashing before they got in the kitty litter. Not saying that kitty litter shouldn't have been cleaned up. Visibility for rows two thru four or five wasn't optimal :)

Hell of a lot of oil dry out there!  Too much to start the race on; it should have been swept. Once the front of the field got through, the rest probably couldn't see a thing out there and started moving to the left causing the accident. Will be nice to hear some driver comments & see some in car video.

You can see a noticeable gap from the front 1/2 dozen or so rows to the beginning where the scrum takes place.  My guess, someone around that point either missed the start or lifted slightly due to the visibility, and the cars from behind decided to go 5 wide with their overtake speed.

Just a guess.

There was another video from someones in car on FB that I cant find now.. But it was a complete white out. You could not see a thing to avoid anyone.

Topeka tech ( Chris Blum) was there and I believe there was post race tech with atleast one head coming off ( Dillons)  and it was fine. Not sure who/what else was checked. My info is second hand.

I found this from Es.   Ugly!  Go to the 9:00 minute mark for the start.

You can see a noticeable gap from the front 1/2 dozen or so rows to the beginning where the scrum takes place.  My guess, someone around that point either missed the start or lifted slightly due to the visibility, and the cars from behind decided to go 5 wide with their overtake speed.

Just a guess.

Missed shift so I've been told.
