Here is the video I posted on the SE forum - it shows the last 5 laps of the National at Roebling on Sunday March 6th 2011. Damp track but drying. Steyn chasing Van Vurst for the lead.

Roebling Road is most unique in that there are a number of equally fast lines around the track. You also have to realize the track was wet at the start of the race and drying but did not dry out. What you see as blocking is actually using a "protective line" which you can do there and still be just as fast.

Both Danny and Chip ran a very smart race. Chip protected the inside at the end of the front straight and gave Danny the outside. However, it was just too wet out there to get enough grip. Danny had the chance several times to use the bumper but that would have most likely resulted in a two position penalty. I only saw one opening and I think Danny was in too deep to take advantage. A fake outside with a move to the inside at start finish might have worked but then again, it was wet and that's tough to do even in the dry.

Super driving by two really great SM drivers. The best part of all was the smiles in impound. Both drivers gave it their all in less than ideal conditions and both have their cars undamaged and ready to go at Atlanta in 2 weeks. I'd love to show that video at our next drivers school at Roebling. Heck, I need to bring it to the Stark Double Regional next month, the 1st anniversary of the Miata flying over the Starters Stand and all!

Agreed, 'defending'. Well, maybe except for 4:40+ and then to a lesser extent maybe even 6:20+...seemed reactionary. It's no biggie and I'm not looking to make it otherwise...shoulda kept my fingers shut. I've done and will do the same. Great battle between great drivers. As long as they had fun, that's all that matters ;-)

What the hell, video on this forum is fair game, don't matter who it is :)

I might have saw a little block in there too, but not sure with the camera angle and all. BTW, Danny could you buy a more expensive camera, that one is just not cutting it :D

Danny, Thanks for sharing, the respect the two of you had for each other was super.
Jim on a side note I believe the anniversary is not until July. Ask me how I know. :D

George, your right. I had the flying Miata confused with the "let's see how many cars we can take out on the front straight" weekend. And that was after I had the special meeting at the drivers meeting to remind everyone that money paid for body work was wasted in a racing budget.
