I've got an ITA Miata that's a 1990 tub 'updated' to 1995 as ITA rules allow by the previous owner.

The fuel gauge is stuck on empty, so tomorrow I'll be starting to troubleshoot, but was wondering if anyone knew if the fuel pump assembly is interchangable from 1990-1997? I don't have great documents from the previous owner, but I know that I can get 12.25 gallons into it from totally empty, so I suspect it's still a 1990 tank (google says the 1994-1997 tanks are 12.7 gallons).

Also, I noticed that Mazdaspeed has two part numbers for the fuel pumps. For the 1.6 tank, they have B61P-13-350B and B61P-13-350B-MV (Mazda Value). For the 1.8, there's BPE8-13-35Z or BPE8-13-350 (not noted as Mazda Value). Is the 'Mazda Value' part ok? The price difference is 4-5x...

Thanks!

This should explain a lot, I didn't watch it all.

With the FP assembly out, you may see the P/N to replace whatever year if it's the sender.
But like the video says, it's the sender or the gauge or unplugged or the wire got cut along the line.
Good luck,

Cool. I found that video yesterday and it looks like an easy job (other than getting to the tank in a caged car).

It's a lot easier with the top off but not required.  Sometimes the float can just get tangled if the wiring gets loose.

Don't drop the screws !!

Pay attention the seal/gasket goes on right.

If you smell gas after a high speed turn, you may have to try again.
