Yes, the official event name is "The 2015 IT/SPEC*tacular Plus". The original IT/SPEC*tacular event was concieved in 2007 and highlighted the Improved Touring, Spec Miata, and Spec Racer Ford classes. Over the years we have invited various other classes and/or series. Last year we opened the event up to all SCCA and GLD classes and renamed the event with the "Plus". The 2015 edition again is open to all classes, includng GTA.
The event starts off with the Friday PDX. Always a popular track event where experienced and inexperienced drivers can get the thrill of driving Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course. Think about rewarding your spouse or crew member that puts up with your antics at the track with a day of their own on track. Inexperienced are paired with instructors who will educate them on the skills of performance driving.
We are currently negotiating with The Mid-Ohio School to hold one of their Open Test and Tune session on Friday evening (5:00-8:30). A good session if you need to check out the car, bed brakes, or just want some seat time before the race weekend. I'll post more when we get this finalized.
The double regional Club Race is Saturday/Sunday. Saturday starts with a qualifying session for each group, followed by the first race, Race 1. Sunday morning is Race 2, and Race 3 is in the afternoon. Event points are awarded for your finishing position in class for all three races, to determine the Class Champion in each class. The afternoon races for each day also earn points for the Great Lakes Division Regional Championship Series as well as Runoffs qualification.
Continental Motorsport Services is sponsoring a garage give-away for the weekend. They will have their on-site store open in the middle-paddock or you can contact them on line for all your racer needs. Drawing for the garage will be random from all entrants registered by midnight, August 1st. Winner notification will be in advance of the event, and if you have already rented a garage, it will be refunded.
A difference for this year is that we have decided not to have a Saturday evening Social. This is being done because of the escallating cost of catering events at Mid-Ohio. There will still be a Worker Party put on by Lake Erie Communications in the LEC Campground. We will be recruiting drivers/crew to man the grill and serve the volunteer workers for a couple hourse on Saturday evening. If you want to give back to the workers, look for a sign-up list at Registration.
Hope to see everyone at Mid-Ohio.
