What Todd does not say is that he bested a 41 car field today at the Road Atlanta July Fry double SARRC/SECS race and turned the fastest race lap of a 1:45.426. Jonathan Czarny was 2nd with Dan Tilley 3rd. First place SECS went to Joe Crowell with Case Crowell 2nd and Mike Cottrell 3rd. Another round of races tomorrow. Times a couple of seconds slower than March Majors but it summer time hot here in Ga.

The start/finish camera was great but I couldn't keep it. I tried a screen shop on my laptop but that didn't work ether.

But a drag race down to the checkers, he won by about 2 feet, if that. I would of been a little excited afterward too :)

He has to post video.

ELKHART LAKE, Wis. (July 25, 2015) – The slipstream draft proved to make or break the hopes of many drivers looking to notch wins in Round Nine of the Northern Conference SCCA U.S. Majors Tour, part of the SafeRacer Club Racing Program. Less than ideal track conditions drew the front runners in many classes closer together for extended periods during each group’s 20-minute races.

Another factor that led to close racing was warm July temperatures, as a result of nearly cloudless skies over the 4.048-mile, 14-turn road course. The sun warmed the asphalt to the point where many drivers felt it was too slick to put the throttle down as they would like.

Group One featured a close Touring 2 battle between Mark Boden, of Buffalo Grove, Illinois, and John M. Buttermore. In his No. 4 BMW M3, Boden crossed the finish line just 0.434-second in the lead. The win marked Boden’s first in the Northern Conference points chase.

Group Two offered a pair of victories that were decided on the last lap of the 10-lap race. On all but the last go-around Herb Nobel was the class leader, but following a pass that utilized the slip stream William B. Cobb, of Cambridge, Wisconsin, rode his No. 28 Clueless Racing CNB Milton Bana to the Formula 500 win.

The story in Formula Vee was quite different. Bruce Livermore, of Stillwater, Minnesota, came out on top of a three-car breakaway to the finish. Heading into the final lap, Livermore led the closely-contested, three-car battle and was able to place his No. 37 BBBuilds/Veetech Mysterian X-M2 in the right place at the right time to take the win.

Group three produced another race decided on the final circuit of the course. Michael Froh, of Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin, scored the F Production win after getting around Michael Hart following the white flag. Hart turned his fastest lap of the race on the last lap, but it wasn’t enough to keep Froh, in his No. 72 Mazda Miata, behind him.

GT-2 also proved to be a nail-bitter of a race. John Kachadurian, of Denver, Colorado, got to the line before AJ Henriksen, but only by 0.129-second. Kachadurian, in his No. 80 Kachadurian Group/Grey Fox Racing Porsche GT3 Cup, was the leader as both drivers received the white flag, but Henriksen made things interesting with a never-give-up final lap that kept things interesting right to the line.

Group four also showcased an extremely close race in American Sedan, of which Philip Smith, of New Albany, Ohio, came out on top. In his No. 47 Hoosier Tires/Ilmor Racing Chevrolet Camaro, Smith crossed the line with Edward Honsni only 0.686-second arears.

Based on the finishes seen in the first four groups, it only stood to reason that the 27 drivers in the Spec Miata field would put on a show worthy of note. Kyle Webb, of Centerville, Ohio, was the first to pass under the checkered flag, but it was no easy win. Webb drove his No. 99 Nova Brown not forgotten/ATL Speedway Mazda Miata to the win, but only 0.043-second ahead of Justin Hille, with Justin Elder less than 0.6-second behind. On Lap six of eight, it looked like Webb may not be in the right place to capture the win as he was shuffled back to fourth. But he was able to claw his way back to the front and score his second Northern Conference win.

Racing from Road America resumes on Sunday, at 9:10 a.m. (CDT). Seven race groups will take the historic 4-mile course for 12-lap feature races.

Congrats to Kyle, Justin H., Justin E. and DownTown Tommy Brown.  The entire race up front was another great race. Last two laps was a big question from T5 stands to see who was where at T13.

Scratch that. We have gone black flag all. The field will report to the pits.

Congrats to Justin H. Kyle and Josh.

Black flag all, I'll let someone with the FACTS come forward.

All I have on black flag is 2nd hand. BUT it sounds like an OfficialDumb call. DownTown Tommy Brown may have been part of the call, he had a sensor (?) issue at the green flag and pulled side track.

After the black flag, the race was the top 4-5 changing positions, Hillie, Webb, Sager, Elder and Billike (sp?).

The first start was waved off which meant another pace lap without the pace car.  The polesitter paced the field on the 2nd pace lap but did so at a pace that was not achievable by most of the cars in the field (just too much talent there to let go to waste I suppose  :cheerful:).  Now in defense of the polesitter, he may have been bump drafted on the 2nd pace lap by yesterday's winner which further increased the pace :o . Stewards decided that we needed to come in and regroup so they sent us out behind the pace car single file to try it again.

Seriously I just read the rules now for pace laps and starts and really it could be written more clearly.  To me the rule should plainly say that for a waived off start the field should maintain rows of two and that the polesitter should pace the field at a speed similar to the pace car.  It doesn't spell that out as clearly as it could.

From the GCR:

6.5.2. The Pace Lap A. One pace lap precedes all races, unless the Series Chief Steward or Chief Steward authorizes an additional unscored pace lap. B. The pace lap may begin at a brisk pace, but must be sufficiently slowed before the start line to allow orderly grouping of the field. The actual speed immediately prior to the start is dictated by the types of cars, size of the field, and course layout. However, the standard SCCA start is a rolling start and not a flying start. The same official should brief the front row drivers before each race, preferably the Starter, under the direction of the Series Chief Steward or Chief Steward. 1. If a pace car is used, it will be positioned at the head of the pack, with emergency lights flashing. Drivers may not pass the pace car until it turns off its emergency lights and pulls off the track, and the pole car will maintain the speed of the pace car before it pulled off track until the green flag. The front row drivers must be advised not to pass the pace car. 2. If a pace car is not used, the pole car will pace the field complying with directions from the Series Chief Steward or Chief Steward or his designee. The pole car will maintain a constant speed from the grouping until the green flag and shall not modify his speed approaching the flag stand. C. A car may not improve its position in the field after the cars are released from the grid for the pace lap. 1. A car that improves its position relative to the field during the pace lap by moving forward, moving out of line more than half a car width, or passing before the green flag is displayed may be penalized for a false start. If a false start has occurred, and the race has been started, the driver(s) may be black-flagged and held in the pits or at the start line for up to 1 minute, and other penalties may also be imposed, as specified in Section 7. 2. A car that fails to start with the pace lap or falls out of position during a pace lap relinquishes its grid position and may rejoin only at the back of the field. 3. A car that is disabled and cannot keep the pace should not hold up the field. The driver must signal that his car is disabled by raising an arm, pulling to the side of the course, and staying well off the racing line. Other cars may safely pass the signaling vehicle. The driver of a disabled car should seek assistance at the nearest corner station or pit at the first opportunity. 4. When a car drops out of the pace lap(s), everyone in the column behind that car must close up behind the car in front; moving up under this circumstance is not considered improving position or passing under yellow. GCR - 61 6.

Racing Rules and Procedures General 6.5.3. The SCCA Standard Rolling Start A. The SCCA standard rolling start will be used at all SCCA races unless an alternate procedure has been approved by the Division’s Executive Steward and is included in the event Supplemental Regulations. B. The Starter shall be safely located where the majority of the drivers in the field can clearly see him as they approach his position. He shall remain motionless, with the green flag hidden, and no other flags visible. C. The Starter will start the race by suddenly and continuously waving the green flag until all cars have passed the start line if the field is: 1. At a constant low speed; 2. Well bunched; and 3. Close enough to the Starter that the majority of the drivers can see the flag. D. Racing begins and passing may occur throughout the field when

I honestly was just stupid. Wasn't paying attention to the green, then saw the double yellow, and sped up to catch the non existent pace car. Didn't really know what was going on.
